I am now in my senior year and I need a date to the prom.
My parents made it very clear that they are going to make me go to the prom no matter what, because they did not and they highly regret it. So, this is serious business. I'm not getting off the hook by complaining like a stupid bitch.
But here is my problem! No one wants to go with me that I find attractable. To be honest, the only people that actually consider going with me are the mentally handicapped retards or the black girl who gets mad because I won't hug her. And I'm not beautiful, I have some acne, and I'm just dopey. Not assertive, not sociable. Not the
kind of guy girls would be thrilled to take to the dance.
I talked with my school and it turns out that you can actually take outside people to the prom! Now if you live in Pennsylvania or want to take a ride to Pennsylvania around Reading I would love for someone to take me.
My school administration applies some rules though:
Cannot be over 21.
Will be given a breathalyzer test upon entry of Prom.
So if you want to take me, please don't get drunk. And don't be over 21. I'm really depending on a sweet guy to just make this night easy for me. Don't worry, I don't slow dance, and we don't have to have sex afterwords. The only problem we may encounter is being called homos and the like.
PM me for more information but Prom is a while away, but I want to secure a date early. I'll take multiple applications and keep you guys updated to when the Prom will be (probably sometime next Year) and give you the location and such.

Anyways so in the US you got to have a date to the prom? Alot (like 20-30%) of the people in my school went without a date.
Oh and just as you know, girls tend to view these kinds of arangments as rather important, meaning girls you find ugly now will probably look good, or even beautiful on the night in question.
Besides if you aren't usually sociable you will probably find it exiting just to go with a girl as friends and in that case it doesn't really matter if you find her attractive or not does it?
And the obligatory TL cynic comment: You are more likely to get an ugly girl in bed and when the lights are out ~~

Do not do not do not go just because your parents are mandating it. If you have any interest in going, and having a date is the only problem, then by all means try to work something out. But I'm another of those people who didn't go and don't regret it.

get contacts.. do yourself with some wax or something ; just FEEL comfortable; you'll make friends a lot easier that way

I didn't go to prom, went 5-0 on ICCUP, then went out and partied at 2AM with the people that went to prom. obviously the better choice \

I mean it wouldn't be THAT terrible. A couple of my friends in my group didn't have dates. Obviously the vast majority have dates but you can still go stag and not be ridiculed TOO much.

Going alone really isn't too bad. Here's a little success story for you:
I lacked the confidence to ask anyone to the prom so I planned to go alone. A few friends of mine were going together in a limo with their dates and such but one of them said he changed his mind and was going in another limo so I could take his spot. So I thought things were looking up until about a week or two before prom he changes his mind again and I got the boot from the limo. So prom ticket already in hand I decided I'd go anyway as it's something I felt I'd regret.
Fast forward to prom night. I was getting dropped off by my parents, so I was feeling pretty shitty. So my parents pull up in their minivan which they thankfully had the good sense to park well out of sight of the prom location so I didn't have to be seen like this. I walked up to the place past everyone else's limos alone. Yeah, shitty.
So I'm wandering around the prom being a bit of a shutterbug since I was feeling sentimental and I was planning to put them on a website I put together for my senior class later. Somehow, 2 stunningly beautiful girls I knew in passing offered to dance with me. Not at the same time of course. The class VP got on the mic and explained to everyone about the website I put together for the class and I got a standing applause. As the night comes to a close, a third girl (also beautiful, also know in passing) invites me to come into their limo to get driven back home.
In summary, went to prom alone in a minivan with my parents. Left the prom having my first dance and my second of my life, both with beautiful women, a standing applause from my whole grade, and going home in a limo. This quiet socially inept nerd couldn't have asked for more or had been happier.
So yeah, go to the prom. Don't worry about a date, just have fun. Provided your whole grade doesn't hate you, maybe even go around taking pictures. At least gives you a reason to approach and talk to people. Also, remember that you probably won't see 99% of these people ever again in your life. It's been 6 years since my prom and I think I've seen 5-10 people, and most of those were intentional.

That's a terrible idea. You need to go to the prom if you have a date or not. It's about having fun and you just sound like a wuss.
