1.) On my way home from work, i come up this big hill, and my house is on the other side. I shift to neutral at the top of the hill and coast to my house. I have an automatic transmition. Is this bad for my car?

2.) My headphone jack on my computer is fucked up. I have to wiggle the plug around to get the sound to come in both ears. A slight move will mess it up. Its an internal problem, not a headphone problem. Has anyone had a similar problem? is it fixable? is it a DIY?

3.) Whats your favorite color?

1) i dont think so

2) had similar problems with various electronics; dont have a solution except to not move it somehow (hard for headphones). tape? buy new hardware?

3) i like the combination of green and black

Your car should be fine, I have experienced number 2 before, but unfortunately have no words of wisdom to share on the matter, green I guess.

depends how far you're coasting and how steep the hill is. i won't say it's necessarily a bad thing to do, just depends how far you're going.

i've had similar issues regarding headphones except it's always been the headphones themselves that were the problem, so i don't know how to help you.

1. No, actually you don't use any gas while in neutral so you're saving yourself some $$.
2. I've had that. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem.

Ok so #2, yeah its definately a hardware problem. I was wondering if i could like open up my laptop and sodder a wire or something to fix it, but i dont know anything about doing that kinda stuff... =\

1. Go for it.

2. You can try tweaking the wires, but it may not have the desired effect (read: may screw it up entirely).

3. Green/Blue, but it depends on the patterns. Or, if we're talking MTG, White/Blue control ftw :D

#1: no, not bad at all
#2: the contact on the inside of the audio jack became corroded. you could wash it out with acetone or alcohol, scrub it with a q-tip, whatever. that'll fix it for a couple months after which it will become oxidized again.

(this is why they sell gold-plated contacts with quality audio electronics - gold is very stable and won't corrode)

Coasting downhill in neutral is not bad for your car, so long as you aren't needing to brake extensively (if you were, it would wear out your brake pads moreso than if you were engine breaking also.)
However, it's also less fuel efficient to switch to neutral going downhill (depending on the type of car you have), because fuel is still used to keep the engine "idling". When you leave your car in gear, and your foot is off the accelerator you will not be using any fuel.
Also, if you're in a hybrid, switching to neutral will stop your car battery recharging from the engine turning over.
So.. while switching to neutral isn't necessarily bad for your car, it's not good for fuel efficiency.

can you shift to neutral on automatic and let it slide like manual?

same problem with my old tv, didnt try to fix it.

1. from what little i know of cars, it should be fine.
2. for my minidisc player, the contacts got pushed to the side so i couldn't do anything about it (though i didn't know about the oxidizing thing, so that might be the problem actually). what i did to compensate was pull the jack halfway out so that it would contact one of the ears and I'd get mono in both ears... after a while that didn't work either.

This happens with my keyboard / mouse all the time and idk now to fix it.

1) Let the engine brake a bit or you'll wear down the brakes earlier. Depending on how steep that hill is of course.
