Hi everyone. My name is Kyle. I'm a software engineer by day, and by night, I'm also a software engineer. I program all the time. I thought it might be interesting to see if anyone was interesting in there being a programming blog here on the website. If you all say no, I'll just kill this POS into the ground.
I would like to say I have some experience programming games, but that would be an out-and-out lie. I do have a little bit of experience, but not like what is necessary to make, say, Starcraft. I'm trying to get there, but it's taking a while because I'm having to fix ALL the ridiculously stupid systems that I work on during the day, because my bosses suck at programming pretty badly.
I aim to talk about various things such as design patterns, best practices and principles of software engineering, and general principles of object-oriented design in general. But I can do research for you if you're interested in knowing how something is done as well! Feel free to PM me or post here and I'll do what I can to help. Helping you helps me. Help me help me!

That's really cool, I'd definitely read/appreciate that!

Haha, you're older than probably 95% of other members.

woahhhhh~~
anyways I think there would be some interest, but it probably has to be 'told' in a manner/angle that would interest the not-so-programming-inclined amongst us, and at the same time somehow appeal to areas that interest us in some way.
I'm afraid that I feel like straight up programming theory wouldnt be a hot topic?

I say try it. If it turns out to not be all that popular, then you can just drop it.
What audience would the blogs be catered towards? Programming newbies or advanced computer scientists?

Cool :D I am somewhat of a software engineer myself (I focus more on theory/architecture type things more than actually developing software). I would read your blog and contribute to discussions. I think there are quite a few of us around TL so I don't think keeping it non technical would be a great idea (what's the use of that anyway? lol).

lol maybe u can help out TSL 2 :o??

let's say there's a high school student who is currently deciding on a major to pick ~ explain to "him" why software engineering is awesome ! :D
Like for example ~
how much is graphical design ( i've worked with autoCAD and inventor / adobe + bryce ETC )
and how much is physics ( currently taking phys II )
and of course math related ( currently taking Calc BC )
and how much is actual programing , python etc, and javascripting ( no experience whatsoever )

It's an introduction because while I used to talk a bit back in the day, I thought I'd grown out of SC. As it turns out, I hadn't. My wife picked it up recently as well, so now we have tons of fun playing. It's great.
Anyway, the thought behind the blog was two-fold: Keep it easy and clear enough for beginners, yet hopefully provide some insight that more experienced programmers might enjoy.
An example of the beginning stuff might be: Thinking about program design - how to think so that your designs don't shit out on you.
An example of something more advanced may be: An implementation of an XML writer using the decorator pattern
An example of something advanced might be: Test-driven designing a phone-managing application from start to finish. This was an idea I had for my main blog, and it's going to be broken up into many, many posts. For now, though, this blog may tend more towards the above two examples, and not the full-TDD app.
