TL has been my #1 url to visit in the past ~3-4 years. Lately I've been visiting it much less frequently than before. The passion is gone, in fact TRUE passion was gone for like 2 years now, but I kept visiting the site out of habit and quite frankly, there's no better place to waste time than here. But, I must admit, lately, TL has slipped down on the top-list of my websites. Nowadays it's more like "shit, what's up on TL I haven't been there a few days". Then I visit the site and I'm not impressed anymore. Threads for wasting time in General forum, then there's the SC2 forum I visited perhaps 3 times altogether, broodwar forum with mundane SC things, tourneys I'm not interested anymore and Strategy forum which might as well be replaced with a search function in it's place.
So, what's the reason for this? First of all, as I said, I think as I'm getting older (21 now) it's perfectly natural to lose interest in gaming related stuff. But, my problem was that I was stuck in this loop of visiting TL and spending so many hours around here even tho I knew I should be doing something else. I just didn't know how to make the first step.
A few of you who have stumbled upon my blog entry about Dr. Paul Dobransky's stuff know what happened. I got into self-growth.
These past years, I've always had the idea that I would make a forum with a layout as perfect as TL's, but with the content of a higher purpose. A place where people would be able to discuss problems with wise folks. Instead of getting advice on how to handle 14 Nex, you would get advice on how to handle your relationship. Instead of learning to fix mistakes in your FD opening, you would learn to cure the anger, insecurities and mistakes you make in your life. You would learn how to achieve your maximum potential as a human being.
The forum over at http://doctorpaul.net/joomla/forum2.html is what I've been dreaming about and looking for. I can't describe to you guys how much I've changed in the last month or so. I've started journaling coz the guys advised me to, and when I look at my writings from even as little as 3-4days, I notice myself chaning my thinking paradigms all the time. I'm constantly discovering new problems, stuff that I've been looking at from a totally wrong angle and learning to make it right. I've learned that I'm not a perfect human, I've learned to face my flaws and then work on them.
Dr. Paul says that only people with low self-esteem are capable of insulting people, giving negative remarks etc. No matter how bad you think your problem is, people will give you positive insights, stuff that will make you think out of your normal thinking routine, stuff that you can use to break free. If your anything like me, you might find yourself laughing out loud as you read the responses at your issues, realizing how limited your view of the world was. There are some extremely mature and wise folks over there, it's a sin not to learn from them ^^
I don't know exactly why I am writing this, I guess I wanted to let people (who might be in a similar situation I was) know that there's an awesome place, perhaps even better(depending on your current interests) than TL. A forum better than TL, "no way!" I would say even 3 months ago.
If you want to grow as a person, if you want it more than you want to grow in ICC rank, ask yourself, are you acting according to your goals?
There it is guys, I hope some of you will have the same great paradigm changes and insights as I have on those forums. I even have a txt file with the most golden posts from the people from that forum. So many useful things you can learn.
If you feel like you are not living the life you _know_ you can and _should_ be living, but don't know where to start, you can do what I did, or find a way to make the first step. Here's a nice quote a user named diezel wrote 2 days ago:
diezel wrote: Failing to take risks and always learning from the experience of others puts you in the back of the bus and never in the driver's seat. There's only one real way to live and that is in first person, not from someone else's viewpoint. Here and now - present tense - first person - singular. Taste the blood from your own lip once in a while and you'll have much less fear of the big guy in the alley compared to the guy who has read about it all his life.
As for myself, I'll keep playing SC for fun, at least a game or two per week, but I think I finally reached a point where I can stop visiting TL.
TY for all the fun times, cheers guys! (don't have time to proofread, I hope not too many mistakes)

well if i was that keen to live life to the fullest, i'd stop using the internet.. i mean c'mon there are so many new things going on with tl.net to make it THAT much more exciting, such as TL.net attack and perhaps a second TSL. I've too been visiting this site for a good 3-4 years, and i most certainly can't say that TL.net currently is worse than it was in its previous years, the forum evolves and changes as you would naturally expect.

dont get me wrong, im not saying you want to insult anyone. But yes, you would be right if you evolved above tl, people here should try to close the cap.

#1 - Dr. Paul says, huh? Sounds a bit of a cultish follow the leader type of thing to me.
#2 - ONLY people with low self-esteem are capable of insulting people and giving negative remarks? Har har, good joke, Dr. paul!

I insult people everyday. I guess I have low self esteem. :[

good luck man.
I totally understand you.
try to maintain balance though, don't overdo it.

david deanglo is good too.
but i don't agree with some of his stuff morally.

It's so incredibly stupid to spend time reading how to 'improve yourself' lal How about getting out in real life instead? gawd, I'm sick and tired of all those self-improvement gurus.

One step at the time. A smart person will always try to learn at least some theory before putting stuff to action. I already did make some concrete changes, but I'm still just starting. But you are right, actions are the only thing that counts.
Also, why are you tired of them? These guys are pretty wise, experienced etc. Everyone can learn at least something.

"even openly dissed hima few times"
But what would Dr.Paul say about that? Obviously you pick-and-choose when his teachings suit you correct? You dislike me yet you utilize that which you claim creates the dislike against me. Odd, I believe Dr.Paul and various other people with a relatively expanded vocabulary would call that "hypocrisy." See, you suffer from the delusion that somehow finger pointing or projecting your blame will absolve you from it. Fact of the matter is you are just as bad as me. This thread and its faulty "announcement" are testament to that fact.
As Chill said, good luck and enjoy looking down on us. Dr.Paul would probably call you a hypocrite and a egotsistical problem child.

Everyone who is taking offense at this or think he is looking down on you is misguided imo. TL is just a community of people with similar interests. His interests have changed to something else and he is sharing it with us.
If all of you are happy with the way you are thats good, others who aren't may wish to change in some way, and it seems like thats what he is doing.

Well the reason its stupid is because you should probably try to improve yourself without outside help. I mean if you take other peopels advice ALL the time for "self-improvement" enough said..
but its good to take in all ideas, just spend more time outside of the internwets.

Of course I take everything with a pinch of salt, I've seen teachings of some gurus which I didn't find complete, so I discarded them.

You will grow by leaving TL. You will grow even more by later returning to it. And EVEN MORE when you'll leave it for the second time! I'm at level 9 right now, will be leaving soon to hit 10.
