Ok so I was never a fan of blogs and the likes, because I just think it's a narcissist thing to do. But since I spend a lot of time on TL and there is a an option to make a blog, I'll do it.
So I'm fat. Not obese, but fat. Our teacher in biology gave us a formula to calculate what mass we have. It's weight (in Kg's) divided by hight (meters)^2. The norm is around 20-25. Sadly I'm on 27. That means I weigh around 83 Kg and am 1.75m tall. This is my 11th grade(keep in mind that in my country there are 12 grades), and for college I want to be fit!
Right'o so this will be my little place where I record my progress(or my downfall lol!)So wish me luck, and I'll try to update this on a daily (or weekly basis while I'm on vacation this summer...).

Ho'kay so let me start by saying what I'm aiming to do on a daily basis:
1) Run 3 Km a day.
2) Do some muscle building.
4) Eat only 2 meals a day and eat HEALTHY (no more junk food with friends after school lol...)
5) I'll try to drink less beer too =(

Going to start today!

you know I don't think eating two meals a day is necessary. As long as you exercise and eat healthy, you shouldn't have a hard time losing weight.

When I'm trying to lose weight I eat 3 meals, run 3 miles (5 km), do 45 pushups, and 90 crunches each day and it works pretty well as long as I stick to it

- drink lots of preferably cold water (no coke or juices, water with some juice is ok for the taste)
- you should eat enough (3?) meals each day (only the healthy stuff of course)
- no snacks like chocolates bars, peanuts or chips
- gain muscles and do sports and u will lose weight automatically

but remember, it should not only be a plan to lose weight, but to improve your lifestyle in general

gl with your plan

a BMI of 27 is hardly fat. you're a little above normal, that's all. exercising is good I guess, as is healthy food, but you're not fat.
This is my truth, tell me yours!

Don't cut down on your eating. Dieting is one of the biggest risk factors for developing an eating disorder, and doesn't necessarily help you lose weight. Best thing to do is eat healthily (cut down on high fat snacks etc), and exercise. What I like to do is I just stop eating when I'm no longer really want the food, rather than having the last third of the crisps packet, or finishing the cooldrink I got. Cause usually at the end of a snack you're not really enjoying it as much anymore, and you're just eating to finish the pack.

But if you just keep a basic check on what you eat, and exercise, your body will quickly get to its optimal weight (that might not be the weight you are looking for, but it's the ideal weight for your genetic predisposition). Working more than that will cause your body to react to get you back to your ideal weight, which means you'll have to work even harder to get anywhere.

Basically, lead a good healthy lifestyle, and then be satisfied with your body as it is. Weight has a very high genetic factor (like height or looks), and fighting against your genetics is rarely the best course of action.

Actually, it's proven to be effective to eat at least 4-6 meals a day while you're losing weight. The trick is to eat little but often, helps the body to maintain a steady metabolism through the day.

Probably should go something like

Breakfast
Small meal
Lunch
Small meal
Dinner
Small meal

Also, buildings muscles while burning fat is kinda contradicting. Seeing how you want to get rid of a lot of energy in your body when you're burning fat, while you want to add a lot of energy to your body while building muscles.

But it's still a good idea to hit the gym 2-3 times a week while focusing on losing weight, that way you can at least maintain your current muscle mass while you're burning fat. Some easy tips for beginners that wants to lose weight is:

- 30-60 min cardio everyday. You don't have to run very fast to burn fat, just keep a steady pace for at least 30-60 minutes

- No soda, candy or fast food

- Don't eat at irregular times, try to maintain an eating routine and eat 4-6 times per day

- When in the gym, try using lighter weights in order to be able to do 15-20 lifts. Doesn't build muscles quite as good but sure burns fat.

If you don't know what to eat, it's easy to follow a pretty general model everytime you have a huge meal (breakfast, lunch dinner):

25% should consist of either Fish, egg, meat or milk products
25% should consist of either Bread, Potatoes, Pasta or Rice.
50% should consist of Vegetables or Fruit.

It's of course not the optimal way to go, but it's pretty easy to follow for a beginner.

Oh and, it's easier to focus on one thing at a time. Like you're saying that you feel a little bit overweight, so focus the first 5-10 months on losing that weight. When that's over with, you switch over to building muscles.

Shit I kinda went overboard here, but what the heck ;o

I always thought that if you put on more muscle you'll actually put on more weight since muscle is denser than fat.

yeah but it's healthy, and that's usually the whole point of "losing weight"

Which is true, what makes you think otherwise?

However that doesn't necessarily mean that you're fat. If you for instance lose 5 kg of fat and put on 5 kg of muscles, you are no longer fat but instead rather buff.

The method that the op is speaking of is BMI=(Body Mass Index). The method only works at persons who doesn't do very much training or sports. For example, a person who is really active in sports that requires lots of muscle mass will have a very high BMI, even though not being fat.

not eating lowers your metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight

you want to eat regularly, just control portion sizes and eat healthy food
your portion sizes should be realistic. not too big, not too small

and it might be easier if you start off walking and transition to jogging

Ok serious now.

1. What is your athletic and more importantly running background? Since you're fat I'm guessing you have none so running 3k right off the bat is a very bad idea. I would recommend alternating 5 minutes of jogging with walking. You want good running shoes that fit your running needs (pronations and shit like that).
2. I think working on your core is way more important and effective right now.
3. NO. Eat more. Eat more good stuff.
4. Drink water.

1. Actually my running background is somewhat nice now. For 2 months, 2 days a week we've been running in our gym class 3,2 km so 3 km is not a problem.
2. core = overall endurance or chest muscles?
3. Ok, I wont eat less, and I'll try to eat more vegies/fruits.
4. mmmm I'm addicted to soda drinks >.<
5. Ty!

Edit: You see, my problem is that outside of school I don't get much exercise and I like junk food/soda or beer to go with it. I'm currently attending 2 schools and all the crap I'm doing doesn't leave me a lot of time to exercise/work out. Although next year should be better because I'll graduate 1 school and that'll give me more or less ~10 hours more free time every week.

i agree with merz. you absolutely should not starve yourself. eat small meals throughout the day rather than big meals. do as the japanese do: eat until you are 70% full.

also, it's ok to splurge a little bit every now and then so you don't crash and give up. once a week or so, let yourself have something tasty like cake or what not. but don't drink too much soda. those made me so fat when i used to drink them a lot
can't making a relationship last longer than 2 weeks, since 1984
