Sexual guilt is one of the worst aspects of human society imo. It leads people to be ashamed of what are perfectly natural urges, it causes repression, persecution and ignorance. Masturbation feels good. I enjoy it, just as I enjoy starcraft. Feeling guilty about stuff like that is just retarded. By a forced life he means one bound by self imposed rules and policed by guilt. Long story short, girls are hot, look at them and enjoy it. And then go home and fantasise about it. It's not like they never do it about us. There's nothing perverted about enjoying the appearance of the opposite sex. On a related sexual guilt note, one of my best female friends spent her teenage years feeling like she was a freak just because she had a high sex drive (which she didn't act upon). It led to all sorts of self confidence issues and it wasn't until she was 18 that she confessed a few of them to me whereupon I explained to her that stuff like lesbian urges or rape fantasies are all pretty standard. | ||

Catholics priests. They can't jack off and they molest choir boys. Sure, not all of them do. But I'd guess that they make up a disproportionate amount of child molesters. Just because a lot of men cheat on wives/girlfriends doesn't in any way mean that it's because they masturbated. When I get to heaven I am so gonna fuck St Paul up about the sexual guilt crap. However, I do not see anything wrong with his action if he does this after a conscious and rational thought - for some men do not touch themselves and are perfectly and naturally happy with their decision. Simply because there are negative examples associated with celibacy, one cannot conclude that there will always be negative consequences. I do not understand how people can be so biased towards celibacy in the last century and equally biased against it in the next. Tolerating and respecting one's private preferences will aid us in better understand ourselves. | ||

That makes some sense though. If you have a very limited sex drive, and could do fine without it, then why get married? Well, the reason today would be, for the companionship. But of course, back then, marriage was not done for those reasons; you get married to some person who you don't love because you want to screw (male) or because your dad is paying for you to get screwed (female). So, avoiding this whole process is for Paul a good thing, it leaves you more able to be productive. I don't know. I'm not trying to capture the subtleties of Paul's argument. Just saying, it's pretty clear to me that the Christian tradition only really became anti-sex as it incorporated more and more Platonism. But then again, the Christian tradition has certainly always unanimously asserted that sex is to be done in the context of a monogamous, committed relationship. So, sexual desire for your neighbor's wife is frowned upon. ...Just my 2 cents. Don't blame Paul for everything, Plato's legacy is more to blame if you ask me. | ||
