so i heard from my dad, who read in the papers, that LA and Orange county banned burning firewood and construction companies from buliding homes with wood burning fireplaces.

yes, i kid you not, a ban on burning wood.

So i was telling my dad, hey let's get the fireplace going today. and apparently, you will be fined for it if they catch you.

I was soo flabergasted at this law, and could not find words. How ridiculous is this?!?!?!?

i'm not even going to go into how environmentalism is being leveraged to undermine constitutional liberties, or how the CO2 - bicarbonate - limestone reversible reaction stabilizes the CO2 levels in the atmosphere throughout the globe http://www.creationscience.com/onlinebook/Limestone2.html, (global warming by CO2 is impossible), or all the historical repeats of this road like with prohibition of alchohol)... it's just freaken ridiculous.

as beautiful and as humanly perfect of a government as i believe the american constitution to be, it doesn't seem like it's going to last at this rate of encroachment. i'm seriously considering moving to canada after i graduate college.

the law is pretty ridiculous, but so are your claims about global warming. your source is laughable at best.

i know not everyone is going to agree with creation in the whole package. it's the same for any theory, even evolution or global warming.

But the point i refer to is very narrow in scope. the chemical reaction. are you going to say that the chemical reaction of CO2, bicarbonate and limestone is false?

-_-;;;
Creation science is not exactly a reliable source. No way CO2-bicarbonate-limestone can stabilize worldwide CO2 levels.
The legality of fires somewhat varies with population density, so it DOES make sense. Unless you are living in the outback or something. Mostly I think it's up to the local population to decide.

Are we talking outside, inside or both?

Cos here in aus when fire bans are on it's been at times (At least in syd) illegal even to have a bbq going, though I am basing that bbq thing on secondhand sources. The point is however that we have laws regulating fire, though admittedly we have a different situatio with potential bushfires.

EDIT:NVM I just realised OP specifically states fireplaces.
Their are four errors in this sentance.

LA isn't banning wood to reduce CO2 lvls. They're trying to fight smog.

And seriously gwho you need to get out more.

I know that in Washington they occasionally have temporary burn-bans when the air quality is low.

burn bans aren't about CO2 levels.

"The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency issues temporary bans on indoor and outdoor burning when the weather trends toward stagnant conditions, such as air inversions, which trap fine particle pollution emitted from our chimneys, cars, trucks, and other activities. Our air quality can deteriorate quickly when the weather doesn't give us the breeze we need to clean away our daily air pollution, which is why taking action to curb burning can help keep our air healthy."

"Smoke from fireplaces and wood stoves and from backyard and land-clearing burn piles is composed of fine particles and a toxic mix of other carcinogens that are hazardous to human health. Fine particles are associated with serious health effects, as the tiny size of these pollutants allows them to be easily inhaled, bypassing the immune system and proceeding deep into your lungs, where they can cause respiratory and cardiovascular problems, including premature death."

http://www.pscleanair.org/default.aspx

I don't know about you, but I don't want to be breathing that shit.

I think the answer is always people are stupid, too stupid to realize they shouldn't burn firewood all the time. It may cause cancer, but so does everything else. Moderation and not being stupid is the way to go. If they can find a strong positive correlation with public health, I would be slightly less outraged. I think there are other steps to take before banning wood burning fire places in houses.

look, i just thought banning burning wood was pretty ridiculous.

i admit i didn't know about the exact reasons, since i was just going off of what my dad read from the papers, and the paper sited that the justification behind it was global warming. i thought the ban was stupid and the fact that there is a ban isn't disputed. honestly, i just thought it was stupid and i didn't deem it all that important to do lots of research on it. so i maybe i was wrong on the reasons for the ban. but i'm saying there is great reason to believe burning firewood is pretty harmless, since so few people do it, compared to car fuel, chemical wastes, fluoride, arsenic and up to 65 pharmeceutical drugs in our water, and mercury in the vaccines. if it seriously was a problem, then mayyyyyyybe. there's a whole lot of air in the world you know. not to mention that it's quite intrusive to personal liberties.

everyone's views about lots of different topics are different. and while you may not agree with things on different things, at least i can back them up, instead of just going by social affirmation. ill be glad to debate creation/evolution any day. i guess it was just my mistake for even mentioning other views along with this firewood burning ban. because most people don't seem to be able to distinguish the issues at hand vs relegatory issues. if you mention one they just bunch everything up like children. illogical associative mentality prevails like so:

I stopped reading @ http://www.creationscience........

even if it has nothing to do with the main topic.
(it wasn't even about creation/evolution, i was refering to the chemical equiation. im assuming you believe in evolution then. yet most people don't even consider the impossibilities of macroevolution even if it's mentioned straight to their face)

that's why the media is able to so effectively able to influence and direct the masses of opinions so well. so sorry my mistake for not dumbing it down to your level. my mistake.

that is all.

i can say "nuh-uh" too. again, this is about the firewood ban, not creation. (it only shows you don't even understand the theory of creation, besides how much as the average person been taught on it, while they're taught their whole lives about evolution in schools? caues and effect is how it is reasoned) But lets talk on a separate thread about evolution and creation yah?

you're cute

you mention evolution as if i'm an evolutionist by default and evolution and creation are mutually exclusive in all incarnations
