I have this site idea, I want to know if: a) it's a good idea b) it's taken and c) it's feasible
Alright so we all know that there are betting sites, where one can bet over/under on the spread.
My idea is to allow users to manually place and take bets of their own -- an example:
Let's say I want to bet 100 dollars that The Rockets will win 25 straight. I can then place such a bet online, and allow other users to take that bet. If no one takes the bet, then I lose/gain nothing. If someone takes it and the Rockets win 25 straight, then I win 100 dollars, and if not, I lose 100.
That's it. Thoughts?

cool idea, so it's kind of a 1on1 basis, and I assume the site would take a small cut from every bet. I don't see why it wouldn't be legal, it's just like any other betting site.
I don't know how successful it would end up being though; I can imagine people doing annoying stuff like posting thousands of unfair bets hoping that someone will bite and win them easy money.

I rememeber reading about a site like that, I don't remember the name though.

How is it judged who won?

yeah, I'd have to figure that out, as well as a bunch of other stuff

you'd have to hire people to work as unbiased moderators for bets, who would collect the money from both parties and then decide the outcome.

I was thinking about it, and that would only work for some bets (where the outcome was obvious, like who won the 2009 World Series. If the best was something less easy for an outside observer to determine, it wouldn't really work. Maybe all posted bets would need to be screened for being testable.
