Somtimes when i play Starcraft and im in a very intense game, i go into a thing i like to call the void. Basically i cant hear anything other then the game, i completly ignore the music thats blasting in my ear and everything outside of the game. It's like i dont even excist, i have no consideration of time or place, just nothingness. Some on could come into the room (has happened before) and i wouldnt even notice, they could poke me and i still wouldnt notice. My entire concentration is on the game. Most times i cant even really remember what has happened in the game. Since i cant base any thing on personal expirience i wonder if this helps me play good or not. From what i kno of this i dont actual think in the void, so i imagine i play worse because im not THINKING. Does anyone else have any experience with this??

Happens to me when I'm at class or work, I won't even remember the past 8 or so hours.

Well anything you do and repeat is being made automatic for you.
Automatic processes are in you subconsiousness, so you are no aware of them.
Sometimes if you do something in automatic mode and try to focus on what you do, you get frozen with no way to go on just start over.
This applies to really anything from shoe-laces to bicycling.
The advantage is you subconsious does everything faster and more precise if not interrupted.

Dear God yes.

My subwoofer is under my desk, and I often put my feet on or near it. Often when I get in an intense game I'll subconsciously tense up, and as a result I jam my foot into the subwoofer, but I don't feel it. In really intense games, this goes on for over twenty minutes, numbing my foot.

So I'll finish the game, ease up, and then 2 seconds later have pain shoot up from my foot and I'll realize I've been jamming it into my subwoofer again. It happens less now, but in any game I'm concentrating really hard on that last awhile, I'll for sure do it.

I sometimes can do something similar, but never for very long at a time. When I'm really concentrating, I can click faster, more accurately, and I'm better about my hotkeys (but my macro still sucks, lol) although this isn't quite what you described.

I don't call it going into the void, I call it the engine taking control.. but yeah, happens to me too, and not only with StarCraft. I get this with Chess (blitz only) or running a code, in fact anything else in life that requires intense attention span.

Maybe this is the reason I can get nowhere near back to the "decent" level I once was on. I can't get into this state any more. In fact, this "state" pretty much happened to me only on matches with a high "stake" - LAN tourneys, Nation Wars, tournament games. Very rarely in ladder / practice games, sometimes it did when I knew my opponent was a big gun in the scene. Nowadays...I can't seem to focus that hard

I tap the ground with my feet like with a double bass. I get the something similar. All my feet tense and then sore.

used to happen to me a lot when playing sc... happens all the time when playing super smash bros, and even when programming for school (like I code for 10 hours in a row and have no idea where the day went, etc). For me it's just an insane trance where all I care about is the task at hand. This feeling is intesified for me after I have a rockstar energy drink.

I didn't think it was serious until I read the replies... I don't think I've ever gone that far, but I'm probably just not good enough to get that into it haha.

Something like this happened when I played fairly seriously awhile back. I'm not very good at all but when I focused a lot I would find myself going on auto-pilot for awhile which wasn't good because I wasn't thinking as much as I should have. Just macroing and going about the motions of sending units to attack.

Also, if I play long enough I seriously start holding my breath and end up with numb hands after matches.

I use my subwoofer as a foot rest also, it is srsly~ so good. Although I don't use it as a kicking bag .

"the void" I have gotten this for starcraft, will completely zone out my music. it's crazy.

I read a story about how this one doctor was doing this many-hours super intense operation and when he finally finished he looked up and there was all this rubble in the corner of the building, because while he was operating a portion of the ceiling caved in but he didn't notice.
But why?
