I was reading the Starcraft I mannual, as I usually do, always returning to that place always to find access to the rich quality invested in the book, at that time..
I remarked something that the Protoss were branded or depicted as 'Conservative'?
It was in the 'Protoss Species Overview' Section:
"...In stark contrast to the adaptive Terran and feral Zerg are the stolid, conservative Protoss, with their highly advanced technology and potent psionic abilities, the Protoss have considered themselves the most powerful species in the known galaxy.."
This brings me to analyse the usage of that word, conservative. What does it mean today, and is it really powerful enough to elicit so much emotion, within the framework of society today...
(Before I continue please remark that I consider the Starcraft realm & game to be an expression of a system, of near-perfect archetypal form. I'm talking about everything: from the story, to the fictional frame-work, to the game mechanics)
What is a conservative.. is it someone or a group whose able to converse resources.
Is it someone who's restrained or balanced, arrogating a sense of self-possession and control over themselves, people and lifestyle.
Self-control.. what an axiomatic assumption - as if the environment around us permits such a concept..
As if the World and Society gives reason for one to assume balance and reason, within their character..
To elicit another example, I recall the dialogue between Leon Kennedy and Krauser, in resident evil 4. Krauser tells Leon, he wants to restore Umbrella, to bring balance back to this insane world.
Leon replies a psycho like you can neither bring order nor balance..
Then Krauser ends saying Do you really think a conservative mind can bring about a New World Order?
And that's just exactly it.. because that saying served to remove notion of who or what type of person, can be expected to be a remedy for the future.
As I read the Starcraft manual, that was assembled and produced in the years of 1998 - 1999.. I'm wondering did the Terran Confederacy have to endure the absolute vivid incompetence that our leaders exhibit today?
In actuality, they did not, because their history could not permit them to do so.
Their history was one of a people that crash-landed on a planet, only just having the recourse to strip the ships of its material resource, and then moving to establish civil technology, on the planets.
And more, the Planet Earth depicted in Starcraft, did in fact, as a reactionary measure assert control in the form of the UPL - United Power League.
Our humanity today, carries on boldly because it believes that it is at the forefront of technology and our leaders know no rivals. The media & entertainment that our people consume, serves to stylize the Rich & Decadent as something fashionably desirable...
We wonder what terrible event awaits us in history, that'll define the 21st century, in is incipient stages.
In the 90s, being immersed in computers that were acceptable - though not cutting edge - running on a 486 processer, exposed to Microsoft windows 95, 98, having time and recourse to still return to Doom 2, that was played alongside a Creative Labs CD-ROM and Sound Blaster 16 computer... etc
No person would've ever thought that humanity - through the auspices of technology - 20 years later would've been brought to its knees via the disgusting standard so vividly clear today.
It is, an abomination, sugar-coated in explosive colour and sensory over-load, where every guy, individually fears to appear too cynical, too sentimental, or too put-out, when he says aloud to an audience : the new doom game is a load of shift..
aaah Doom. Has anyone ever listened to the mechanical obstacles that John Carmack and Romero had to overcome during creating & testing that game?
John Romero, he used to talk of an iterative-play design process..
You don't see it now, but the apotheosis of those men - and others alike - are beyond anything of what our current standard of university instructors, will ever know.
while they admire bloated paintings of psuedo-curvaceous female forms, and some doddering old fool who couldn't arise from his armchair while immersed in circumambulatory philosophy.. within his mind.. in his mind!!
All these remarkable people stylised as profound.. how things mediocre are still the yardstick used to measure admiration.. only because of all the axiomatic assumptions we're so used to.
