You're right, I'm not saying studying won't help. I still believe though that it doesn't really matter the first time you take it. You could study 100 hours or not at all and there would only be a small difference in scores... at least that's how it would have been for me.

well i studied a total of about 10 hours during a 2 month stretch for this stuff, mostly grammar stuff, and raised me score 60ish points to 1600 in the verbal and math sections.

i took em three times years ago, during the old test. i did the best when i went out n partied the night before and didnt even think about it.

then again im a good test taker, and i didnt bother studying for it. i think thats ridiculous. thats all this shit is basically about.

My friend got uber scholarships for huge score on SAT. Its not a hard test, neither of us studied for it and got good scores because its a test of logic mixed with some knowledge really. If you have logic you're golden.

As TheMusiC pointed out, as long as you get a decent score on the SAT, you'll be fine. Perfection is not needed as much as your other stuff, like good essays, good recs, and good extracurrics

If you don't care as much about the uber-elite Universities, the PSAT matters a lot more as far as money goes. I'm going to my college for almost free and got into a fairly exclusive pre-med/medschool accelerated program thanks to being a finalist...

When i hear i think of SAT i think of:
1. Thank god. I need them to compensate for my GPA
2. Stress-free. Why do people spazz over standardized test so much? If you pay a modicum of attention in school, and have moderate reasoning/reading skills, you will do fine.
how reasonable is it to eat off wood instead of your tummy?

I didn't study much for the SATs -- I took some SAT classes that really just got me familiar with the test format/questions and I got 2200ish. Just knowing how the SAT works and learning a few time-saving techniques is ftw.

btw, having a ti-89 on the math IIc is like instant 750+ lawls

I never took the SATs but I took the LSATs. I didn't study and just hoped that my natural knowledge would take me through. The night before the test I was locked out of my house until 3 am, and had to be up at 7 am for the test.
I think I got 165 79th percentile. I'm sure of the percentile (because 80 was the cutoff for a lot of schools) but not of the score.
Then I retook it 6 months later. Studied everything in my book, did all the practise problems and got a good night sleep.
I got around 155 65 percentile.

It was at this point I decided law school wasn't for me :D I don't even know if I wanted to goto law school, it was more to take a shot and see what happened. Luckily the oil patch in Alberta was literally just gearing up as I graduated...

Parents have good intentions but often aren't good at motivating, but the people whining in this blog are equally dumb. Giving up a few hours "of your precious summer" a day is not a big deal when you consider what is at stake. And really, what else were you going to do with that time?

on physics you can miss/get wrong (i forgot which) up to 9 and get 800

To me, the SAT is the ultimate show for the failure of the US educational system. How can you evaluate students based on multiple choice questions? Where did this fascination of multiple choice even come from? For me, growing up in China then moving to the US, my biggest frustration of school has been standarized test such as the SAT. Maybe I am just bitter because my SAT scores don't do my GPA justice but I truly believe that this system is wrong. I mean the girl who sat behind me in Calculus had an F in the class and she didn't understand anything, but she got like a 780 on math of the SAT. The SAT doesn't prove shit, although I do give credit to people who can make it work for them.

2C is the easiest SAT 2 IMO.

I took 1C (780) and 2C (800) and I'm gonna take it again in November for a friend and he's gonna take chemistry for me whoooo :D
