I proposed last year, I guess I never actually posted about it on here... but your story brought back good memories. I popped the question on a beach and it ended up perfectly. The most amazing thing for me is the instant tears, for my girl it was like a faucet, down the cheeks, right away. I've seen that in movies and it always seems fake to me. Oh, might as well pass along some wisdom. My two cents for anyone who's thinking about popping the question (ESPECIALLY if you've been together long enough that your girlfriend is kind of expecting it or it's overdue) is to throw her a "head fake". Basically, you need to give her a not-so-subtle hint that there's some kind of event that you planned for the two of you sometime in the near future (a trip together, romantic night out at a favorite spot, or whatever) that's going to be "special" or that she'll "really love". Get her thinking that you're planning to pop the question there, by bringing up the plans maybe more than you should. Then, you've got her assuming she's knows what's going on. Then, you pop the question before that event, at some totally unrelated time and place. This is seriously the best idea in the world. That's the technique my brother used to lure his wife into the place where they met (a few hours away from where they live) without her thinking something was going on. And I also used a variant of it to totally surprise my girl. Catches them off-guard every time. | ||

I mean, my girl knew we were going to get engaged at some point, we had talked about it, and I knew she suspected. Hence the whole "You're going to get a surprise", trying to get her think the concert was her surprise. Worked out fairly well, I thought.
