I play this game for way too long to still suck at it as badly as i do. I play for hours and never improve, i guess sometimes thats the way it goes. We all want to be better at this game, why is it harder for some than others? A man with a dream will torture himself if he can't accomplish it, but will regret if he never tried. Here goes nothing!

-_-..,if you don't want to play don't. And unless you are mentally retarded, 99% of people improve after each game, even if it is a minute and incremental increase in skill.

Just keep playing. You don't get better overnight. Eventually it piles up and you will realize your mistakes and it will become a habit.Trust me.

do you realize what your mistakes are when you lose?
or do you just sit there and mass game?

you have to think in starcraft, you can't just click mindlessly hoping to raise your apm(=/=skill)

For me it comes in spurts. Like, I'll see no improvement for a couple months, then over like 1 or two weeks i become noticeably better. Don't quit till its not fun anymore!!

Intrigue has compared it to plateaus on several occasions. Sometimes it takes a while before you notice the benefits you are receiving from practicing... but yeah the key is to diversify your strategies for improving. Don't do exclusively one thing... play games, watch the replays, watch other replays, review replays with your gosu friends, watch vods, read strategy threads, get a practice partner who also is interested in diversifying his attempts at getting better, etc.

no one said learning to play starcraft was easy. Keep going if you really want to learn, if you dont think you can do it, than stop trying to become the best

Starcraft is not an easy game at all; there's a reason why Koreans are freaking unbeatable at this game.

5% talent, 95% practice. They practice for hours and hours and study the flaws in their game. Unless you are willing to do such things, you'll never get better.

Take my game, for example. I started competitive Starcraft about a year ago. I played lots of pubs, and all of them were PvT. I lost every fucking game. Like literally. You could send like 10 Vultures and 10 Tanks and probably rape me easily. I watched Nal_rA and Reach replays, turned off the Terran's vision, and turned on FPPlay (from BWL before) and saw what they were clicking, what they were making, and why they did such and such. By watching these, I started to gain a feel for PvT and how the Protoss was supposed to fight, how to expand, etc.

Nowadays, I've improved greatly in PvT, as well as my other matchups. But had I just wished for a better game instead of acting and practicing, I would be as bad as I was before.

But as other people say, go to school and study. Much better than BW
^-^

Equinox_Kr's post is perfect if you wish to put advancing your skills at this game first. Follow that advice, otherwise put your priorities on your life.

Here's a concept that may be hard to grasp, but stay with me, some people have fun when they are improving and winning? WOW WHO WOULDVE THOUGHT?

I hate all these people so think school is so damn important. STFU about studying already, you can be a nerd by yourself, don't' force it upon others, thanks! (not meant to flame, I got a 4.5 gpa but shut the hell up)

that said.... I also hate people who say stuff like 10%/5% skill 90/95% practice. Look at testie, he barely touches sc anymore (also midian who is bragging about how he never plays since he didn't bring his sc CD to school. This way he can fail and it won't be a disappointment.) I have friends who have played regularly since sc came out who still are no where near decent. Raw practice is WAY overrated.

edit: spelling!

lol, i am just re-reading this, i must've been mad yesterday or something ^^

I disagree. Raw useful practice gets you better, no matter what. After that, that skill learned in SC remains in you and slowly degrades, depends on how hard that skill is to achieve. I was really bad before, spent some time practicing macro (just worker build and spending money) and now i can barely time a build order, but can just outmacro my friends in games. And i barely play on weekends now.
People you mentioned had in the past dedicated insane amount of hours playing SC. Now they are not as good as before (when they are out of practice) but are still great at it.

I practice doing 1a2a3a4a5a6a7a8a9a0a over and over again in my two computer classes in notepad(or textedit for the gay ass macs), and then mix it up and type 5z6z7z8z9z0z over and over and see how fast I can do it without looking down.

I started doing this everyday for a while. I then play Starcraft and it's like "wtf, the hotkeys... my macro...

GODLY!"

;D

It's a frustrating game to learn :S I'm a real noob, only started iccup afew days ago and I'm on 1300ish points or so after 10ish games.. I'm about 100ish apm average, and the curve goes from high in early-game to low in mid-end game... exactly opposit of how it should be -_- but I know my flaws and all that is left now is practice, and I have gotten alot better since I started playing games regularly. I guess aslong as it's fun it's worth to keep trying ^^

Oh, and I study university in sweden and I atleast have no problem with finding time to study, working extra and playing sc a few hours a day o_O I even have a girlfriend ^^;
men du... Tagga!
