The third ART WAR is upon us, and I am taking this opportunity to COMPETE IN AN ART WAR!
I WILL BE STREAMING ALL OF MY WORK ON IT AT https://www.twitch.tv/tehzambrah
I'm extremely excited to get my ass handed to be by industry professionals such as Leslie Van Der Broeck (of Blizzard), and get judged by absurd sculpting god Renaud Galand (of Overwatch) and to get to WORK ON SOMETHIN' SUPER COOL AND MAYBE GET SOME RECOGNITION FROM THESE VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY GODS.
The theme for this year's Art War is Heroes vs. Villains. Art War is always really, really open, there no technical constraints, just make sure what you do displays the superpower of your Hero/Villains properly and that its SFW (so no gratuitous nudity or gore.) Oh, and no reusing artwork, so you have to come up with something fresh for the contest, can't reuse old work or anything!
So I'm gonna use this blog to document my progress alongside the Cubebrush forum where you kind of have to do stuff like that.
So step one, figuring out what to do. This begins with some rough silhouette sketches, getting some shape ideas for different characters and stuff.
I browsed the Boku no Hero Academia wiki's Quirk page for some ideas for superpowers, I wanted to do something simple, something versatile, so I browsed and decided on some ideas and themes, I cut some out, focused on three that I liked for now and roughed up some sketches.
Second pass for more silhouette ideas.
I had a great idea for a Fox themed Hypersonic Voice hero, their catchphrase would be, "THIS IS WHAT THE FOX SAYS," but I realized thats fuckin stupid and would probably get me blacklisted from the art community at large.
After this silhouette stage, I pass them around to people I trust, ask what they think would be the best idea or silhouette, and make a decision there.
Trim it down, experiment with what looks good once youve gone into more detail, pick your strongest silhouettes and just take it that one step further, narrow it down a few choices and...
Portalgeist, with the ability to unzip portals in the fabric of reality.
Soulfire, with a ghostly fire, capable of becoming intangible and well, blasting stuff with fire!
Reverb, has a supersonic scream and can fly through the use of giant speakers in her wing set.
do a few larger concept drawings to get a better picture of your ideas, run them by people see what they say, see if anyone has any favorites, things they like, hate, etc. etc.
After choosing an idea to finally run with, you take another crack at it, make sure things are in places, and just start kind of hammering down on it.
