Hopefully anyone reading this knows what the Filthy Cup is. If not, it is a weekly event I run, online. 3 weeks are open only to Americas participants, and 1 week is Global.
The event is run on Fridays, at 11am pacific. Why this time? Well, it is when I could get casters/admins/production to do it :D
The problem is participation and viewership. The Global events are fine. People sign up, people play, people watch, life is good.
The Americas events, however, are not great. We've been struggling to even break 10 signups, many weeks. And that is with a $100 prize pool and OSC Points! I understand that the day/time isnt great for players, but this is significantly worse than I'd expect. It wasnt always this bad, but it has definitely been headed in the wrong direction.
So what do I do? I cannot, realistically, run the event on another day/time. I have a full time job and a wife, so I am limited to when I can get other folks to do it - and thats how we wound up where we are.
I could make all of them (or more of them, at least) Global events. This is something I've been considering. Global events have double prize pool, so I'd need to spend more money (and get my sponsor to put in more money). Yes I know, I dont *have* to - I could run the globals at the same prize pool and it would probably be fine, but I like them being special. That said, I could probably pull this off.
Maybe the Filthy Cups just arent a draw for other reasons? Maybe nobody really wants them?
Honestly, I dont know - so I am not sure what the future of the events will hold. I am, of course, open to suggestions.

man six signups? I'll sign up next time while I still don't have classes. That said, not breaking 10 signups is *surprisingly bad*, and I'd like to attribute it to the time of the day. Friday mornings are probably a better time for the Europeans. It's understandable if you want to stop doing NA and make them all global...but why not do global have the same prize pool as the regular $100?

I'd say you should probably advertise more so people are aware that it even exists.

what would you suggest? It gets tweeted out every week (with many retweets). It is listed in the TL events calendar every week. It has a TL thread in the SC2 tournaments section.
The only thing I dont consistently do is create r/starcraft threads for it - mostly to avoid violating the 9:1 rule they've got.

Yeah there have been some rough weeks.
Today, thankfully, turned out pretty well. We wound up with some great players coming in at the last minute, and this will wind up being one of our better showings for an Americas week.
You're right that I dont have to have the globals have a higher prize pool. I *like* them being higher, but I dont have to. I dont intend to let that get in the way of the events (if I do decide to make more global). I am not sure I want to make ALL of them global however. I mean, I'm from NA - I want to keep supporting the Americas scene as much as I can :D

Send invites to the players. You must know a lot of players by now.

To add I would suggest the possibility of working with someone to help you run the event at possibly a better time , understandable that it is your tournament to run of course , but why not have a test run of changing the time to benefit the possibility of more signups.

That's how we wound up at the time we are now. You dont think I'm free at 11am on fridays, do you? I've got work! The Gauntlet SC2 crew runs the event (largely) for me. It is their time ability that is the limiting factor, unfortunately.
That said, yeah I mean, I dont disagree. A better day/time would be the ideal.
