Things inevitably gets left out when you have to get a video down to under five minutes, so here's my favorite TRUE story from WCS Signature Series that didn't make the cut.
On Starting StarCraft 2
It might surprise you to learn TRUE was actually on SKT at one point, during the final year of Brood War. TRUE was put on Brood War duty till the very end (remember that season of Proleague that was half BW and half SC2? Actually, let's forget about that), and was one of the last players to make the transition to Starcraft 2
Anyway, SK Telecom's coaching staff told him to get to work on catching up in the new game. As a progamer, they told him he should be able to learn the ropes pretty easily, and told him to practice by himself until he was in Master league.
Following instructions, TRUE started really playing SC2 for the first time in his life, and got placed into gold to start. As he continued to grind out game after game, he received an unexpected message: he had been demoted to Silver.
"And that's how I left SK Telecom."

I can imagine a lot of good iccup bw players fighting in gold at SC2 start, but enough to be demoted to silver AFTER grinding? That's incredible.

So many BW gosus without the skills for SC2. World rank 1 was illusive for me, but I got it in the end.

I can confirm he told this story. The exact details, how many games he played win/loss etc to when he got demoted he never gave tho. It is possible he got to gold barely, then lost 2 of 3 games and maybe at that time the promotion/demotion rules were diff. and there was a bug who knows. It's hilarious tho. Also likely he just didn't know certain abusive builds in his first few games of WOL.

You know what they say, KR silver league is like equivalent to NA WCS champion. Bronze is probably at least NA GM.

I just can't believe the "grind" part.
I got a not even silver friend placed in plat.
I played a bronze on korean server and he raiseda defense hard to bypass from a platinum standard.
And a few other stories...
I can see him being placed in gold (weren't you supposed to be placed in platinum at most a long time ago?).
I couls see him getting demoted to silver even.
But you can't fit the grind in this story, you won't fool me!
(yes I read that Idra story once, and thought it was a novelized of his life, until I read stuff like "and he decided to leave for korea, telling his parents goodby, getting in a small boat, covering himself with his mousepad", then realized "it's that time of the year isn't it?", for my defence maybe it wasn't april 1st, timezone and such... yes no I am just stupid... but think about it they annoucned something like Titan Quest remastered version on april 1st I think or maybe another game, everything looked fake and then it was TRUE ...)

I'm willing to believe it because despite rumors to the contrary, pro gamers are human and aren't born with a competitive spoon up their butt.
But now he has defined the meta for TvZ and that is a claim so precious few can make.

fake story, when i switch from bw to sc2 took me a week to get past Diamond on pure mechanics. i can't imagine a pro-gamer lower than diamond on the beggining of sc2
