EPTAlthough he does have a girlfriend. And she matches his temperment. Pretty cute too. He likes to build physical things and she likes to see things come to resolution. Some men build through their mind - theories, poems, literature, code, music. John builds with his hands, and he makes damn good shit. Last week, he re-did his deck which if done through a commercial company, would’ve costed in the thousands. He bought the materials for around 500 bucks.
John is my friend and at times I do envy him. If there’s a word I can use to describe him, it’s that he’s grounded on the earth. For whatever reason, he doesn’t entertain frivilous thought at all, he’s to the point. What he makes serves tangible purpose. The shelf he’s making is going to store books. The girlfriend he dates is going to, I’d bet a large sum of money, end up wifed. His kids are going to get nice tricycles, bicycles, unicycles, and when the breaks start malfunctioning, John is going to fix the shit out of them.
He knows how to enjoy beer and can rattle off the names of which you ones should try. John, what’s the meaning of life? That’s a question that falls under frivilous. A question about beer is somewhat more pertinent. John lives. He works. He gets by. He’s happy. Meaning? Who cares, when the gears are well oiled and turning in your favor.
His circle of friends get him. I wouldn’t say he’s simple, but he’s direct. He is who he represents. His face is the image of reliable. His picture is one that says this guy gets things done. He lives life within the bounds of who he is. He doesn’t strive beyond him, and he doesn’t live beneath himself.
There are questions I want to ask him, but don't, mostly because, I don't think he can give me the answer I want to hear, or at the depth that I would like.
John, what do you see when you look at a sunset?
John, does your heart soar when you listen to some transcendent piece of music?
John, is there a price you pay for your groundedness?
Because the opposite of John is to be untethered. To drift and wander and there is a unique loneliness that comes with such a personality, but also unique pleasures.
Elements of earth and air. I think each person has some mixture of this in them.
