All around me are familiar faces... Worn out places...
For a while now, I've been feeling a bit directionless in terms of interests outside of work, a problem I am reasonably convinced is related to my current stage in life. To give you an idea, I literally had a dream about undue drama at a dinner party last night. Welcome to adulthood. At this point and time, i have neither time nor energy to play SC2 like I used to, though I did log in to get that 5 year portrait and had some fun in lower leagues, and I've been struggling to find a replacement.
I still watch, sometimes play, and pop into the LRs when I can/when my work morning allows to shoot the bull, but there is missing a certain Je ne sais quoi, that spark that made me play 10 games a night minimum when I was 22. So I've had to do a bit of soul searching for something to obsess over, something to occupy my free time and
This Summer though, as a bit of a date night, I bought tickets to a Back to the Future themed night at the newly built, minor league baseball stadium in Saint Paul and I kind of sorta got hooked at least for the moment.

I've watched most home games online, and went to two more games in July, and have been enjoying the process of learning to process baseball. That being said, I find I am still learning how to listen to a baseball game. The other upshot, because the Saints are an American Association of Baseball team, rather than MLB or what have you, is a ticket to watch the game and walk around is 7 bucks, actual seats are 14 to 21 for most sections, but this season has been difficult to find because of the new park.
Did I mention Bill Murray is an owner, and listed as the Team Psychologist. Here he is tearing tickets at the old park for the last series
I played as a kid, but never really got down into the nitty gritty of the logic behind the game. While at times, it can be a bit like watching paint dry, I've found it an interesting diversion from what I normally look for with regards to entertainment. It also has that college sports vibe to it where unlike its comparatively highly paid Major league counterpart, the games just feel more fun; not to mention they don't feel the need to charge you $14 for a Bud Light at the park.
The new habit is much more straight forward, I started going to the gym nearly on the daily. I think in the last month I've gone 4 times a week on my least active week. This has been a mostly daily occurrence about since I got back from China. Yadda yadda, you know the deal, trying to be over all less of a fat bastard and achieve a slightly less rotund overall shape.
It is almost hypnotic.
All in all this is a logical continuation of my changing from smoking to the e cig for the time being, and even that nicotine consumption has been puttering off since I got back from my trip. I think I reached peak nicotine while abroad, definitely peak tar considering Beijing's air quality.
I'm going to cut this section here, but please please please, if I ever start blogging about the merits of cross fit, or a cleanse I'm doing. Ban me for at least two weeks to teach me a lesson; or roll up a newspaper and hit me across the nose.
The last bit I've been occupying my time with, is actually Heroes of the Storm. I've been comp stomping with other people, and fooling around with different supports and at the risk of offending avid Heroes players I appreciate that it doesn't take much to pick up and enjoy. The model feels cash grabby at times, and a bit grindy, but I got Tassadar for free or in game gold rather, so I am happy.
I am still not used to the whole team element, I also don't have a firm, firm grasp of who I am meant to pair with given my preference for support roles. The biggest appeal of the game, is that I don't have to pick up a whole item table to contribute to the team.
Short term though it is a grind to be able to play in hero league, and I need to acquire several more heroes before then and hopefully convince one of my friends to log in from time to time and play a game or two. The player base seems nice enough though, I've only had one real douche canoe in a pick up game thus far.
We'll see where these things take me though, Saint's baseball is done in early September, I hope to keep up the gym habit, (I have no excuse because it is free and in the basement of my work.) and as far as heroes is concerned, we'll see how many friends I can rope into playing the occasional game with me.
Thanks for the read as always TL.
