Hey Hey Hey TL, after what has likely been the busiest first two weeks of July in my life (and will continue to be busy at least through this weekend.), I decided I would revisit my blog (Follow image hosting guidelines kids, as half the links there are broken) from last year about the Minnesota State Fair. Despite having a population of only about 5.5 Million people, our state fair is one of the best attended, and largest in the whole of the US. As my previous blog and its titular decedent would indicate, part of the reason for that is the food.

What I thought would do, is list for you, the new food listed for this years fair in an effort to make you unbelievably hungry, and maybe have you pop into the fair on your own as there are a few TL'ers bumming around the broader Midwest these days. Most fair food screams 'Murica in and of itself, but think of a day at the state fair as every cheat day for the next 3 months, and you'll get over the fact you just ate a deep fried candy bar.

Oh, and if you're wondering about any of the odd food they'll put on a stick. Roosevelt gave his, "Speak softly and carry a big stick," speech at the Minnesota State Fair, and to be frank, we ran with it. If it isn't terribly apparent what the item is, I'll cut and past a description for you all.

Without further ado...

Butter Chicken Samosas

Chilled Bread Pudding

Cowboy Bites: Sweet corn kernels, bacon, jalapeños and cream cheese blended into bite-size balls, breaded and fried, and served with ranch dipping sauce.

Cowboy Dave's Cluck & Moo: Smashed potatoes, roasted beef and grilled chicken covered with beef gravy, crispy onions and mustard BBQ sauce

Italian Dessert Nachos: Cinnamon sugar cannoli chips smothered with sweet ricotta cheese filling, fruit, chocolate, nuts and candy toppings

Kimchi 'n' Curry Poutine

There is much less on a stick in the new food area, so I had to add the token Italian Meatloaf on a Stick so there was something funky

Walleye Stuffed Mushrooms

Source article: Here, plenty more food that didn't stand out to me.

I have the distinct fortune or misfortune if you are concerned for the well being of... well you, of dating a girl who absolutely loves the Minnesota State Fair; it is fortunate to me, she is awesome, but the food at the state fair is far too dangerous for me to go more than once in a given year. This post omits the buckets of fries in inhuman portions, deep fried everything, and improbable amount of grain alcohol at the disposal of a creative/legal to drink fair goer in Minnesota.

Minnesota certainly isn't the only state fair, and even if you're not in the general Midwest area this August to attend, I would encourage any of you looking to tour the US in the Summer to look for the when the state fair of your destination is happening. They are honestly more fun than you might expect, and people watching at the fair is second to none.

I'm from the Twin Cities and the State Fair is the thing I miss the most now that I'm living in DC. It has a culture all its own and the food is both terrible and incredible at the same time. :D

Never been but state fairs are bomb. The Ohio State Fair seems a bit less sophisticated and hickish and fun for those reasons lol.

I was looking through state fairs, and I saw your butter cow as a big attraction for the Ohio State fair.

i was just in Minnesota last week for my grandfathers burial. What's funny about it though is everybody had all these stories of the family all working at my great uncle's hot dog stand at the Minnesota state fair. My grandpa would work there every year with them and my dad and his sister would be forced into working with their cousins there. My dad would have to cut hot dog buns and he used to "accidentally" drop his knife down this grated sewer so they would let him go run around the fair and play. He mentioned that one year it got ridiculous because you could look down the grate and see like 20 different knives he had "dropped"
BW. There will always be a special place in my heart for the game I spent 10 years to be mediocre at.

Did the rest of your family not notice, or were they like "fuck it, let him go?"

My mother did the same thing, there is a breakfast spot near the 4H building on the fairgrounds that the church she was made to go to ran. They were there every day of the fair growing up. Sorry to hear about your Grandpa thuogh.
