Guy railing against blizzard's heroes of the storm(he calls it league of legends like a fucking moron) with standard bull shit about us fat nerds and w/e. Just thought people would be interested in seeing. He talks about how we all love harry potter or what ever, Iunno I was having a hard time seeing his point of view.   | ||

His viewpoint kind of reminds me of a family guy scene where Quagmire doesn't know what internet porn is, and says something like "huh? I thought computers were for nerds!" My personal opinion? I feel the same way about 50% of the other stuff ESPN covers as this guy feels about esports. | ||

On the other hand, I always enjoy a good round of lulz hearing some asshole who doesn't understand the internet or computers talk about anything technology-related. We get to hear some golden quotes, like "The internet is a series of tubes". My gripe, though, is that this attitude towards information technology is systemic throughout the mainstream media. I can't even tell you how many Dateline NBC documentaries and ABC specials show 'the dark side of the internet', playing ominous music while depicting chatroom text scrolling. And in segments on the regular networks about anything tech-related, there is always a condescending undertone, and anyone into technology is painted as a socially-backwards nerd. People who play games are asked ridiculous questions, like "Do you have a girlfriend/boyfriend?" and think about that - it's a perfectly normal question for a normal conversation. In what other setting would a journalist ever ask such a stupid question? | ||

He likely doesn't -actually- hate gamers/think they're all dwellers of their Mom's basement, but was trying to illicit a response + aiming at the majority of his viewerbase that probably knows just as little about gaming and general nerd/geek culture. His job is to get/maintain viewers for the network. Bashing points of view that aren't yours works well enough for politicians to get people to support them, makes sense for a network to use it as well. At least ESPN is poking fun at themselves rather than another network. Probably honest about not wanting to cover esports, and ESPN management wouldn't be stupid enough to have him cover esports as anything other than a one time joke cast. So basically a rather bad troll. Spend more time on internet forums, Mr. Cowherd. We have trolling gurus that will gladly provide you with a trial by fire so that you can graduate from being a trolling padawan. | ||

Pretty much everything Vortok said goes true, so in the end, it's whatever. I'm sure there are eSports supporters that stereotype athletes in sports such as football or basketball as stupid and air-headed with their only way of succeeding in life is by throwing around a ball. | ||

Anyways mainstream culture is not as hostile to esports as many people like to think. ESPN2 used to broadcast MLG and at one point MtG games. What happened here is that Blizzard likely paid them off to show a game that still has little popularity instead of a self-sustaining esport like LoL, CS, or SC2. | ||
