Why didn't the wildings follow the big giant through the tunnel?
Why did they cease fighting when it seemed they were making so much progress?
I felt like it made no sense.

I'm not really sure why they didn't follow the giants (maybe something about not having full control over the giants in a way that it would cause heavy losses?)

It is later said (unless I remember wrong) Mance says he was testing the wall and when he saw how few there were he sent a lot more men to go over the wall to do the same attack that igrit/john did. So again may be remembering wrong, but when the Giant lifted the gate, there were no troops nearby because they had literally just got burned. The one giant was enraged that his buddy died, so he lifted it and charged through. The one thing I can agree with you though is climbing the ice wall from where they were was retarded. Even if they somehow managed to make it up, they'd be exhausted and never kill anyone (let alone not many would ever come up at a time).

When the wilding army was attacking castle black ... out numbering them 1000 to 1 ... why were they climbing up the giant ice wall when there were people who had clearly infiltrated into the castle? Why not keep sending soldiers into the castle? Why didn't the wildings follow the big giant through the tunnel? Why did they cease fighting when it seemed they were making so much progress? I felt like it made no sense. if nothing else, remember wildlings are primarily an undisciplined mob with no real concept of siege warfare and no proper education really. I can imagine them just seeing the thing and being completely overwhelmed at it's sheer magnitude and not being able to imagine a way to defeat it. People in medieval times are kinda dumb, and battles (to my understanding of military history anyway) are confusing things to get involved in. And remember they only make one attempt on the wall itself, the losses they sustain were a tiny percentage of their overall force. You don't have to throw everything you've got on the first day of a siege, unless you're Stannis Baratheon or a film.
