I decided to enter a small nordic game jam with this. (http://en.gamesjam.org/events/1/)
This is the state where it ended. It misses progress and way to heal.
The tutorial ended up being quite nice but it missed the combo system. When you have more progress... more levels... you have more columns to pick your actions from and if you picked a row of matching actions, they will cumulate the power.
The fighting system ended up being very addictive to myself, but it might be just because I designed it... Our artist hated the fighting, he though it is like playing an excel table.
Here, I about the own a scarecrow.
The whole strategy aspect comes from the randomness of the opponent, playing against the expected outcome or taking risks to land bigger blows later. I think it would actually be in this form quite boring against a human.
Killing that sheep would grant me the poison ability. might be handy for the future... If there is an actual future :D. I wonder if it is possible to beat all the enemies on this map... I bet it's not.
On my best run, I managed to beat a wolf, a barbarian and 2 marauder, finally falling after a Viking.
Barbarian actually do not do much damage outside of their battlecry and during that you can use dodges. The battlecry does 2 extra damage for 3 rounds.
My next step might be to redesign the whooooole thing. Maybe dropping the adventure side, and focus more on the character progress. Like a mix of FTL and Ernesto RPG.
Or should I redesign a totally different battle mechanics?
Time will tell...
