LiquidDota has yet to get its first "forum star". I am looking forward to the first one being given though. It would bring volunteering in a positive focus. Can't currently think of a candidate though but this site is still young.
The blue posters is kind of similar to the stars.
I see the arguments, I marginally volunteer on the site because I want information to be correct. I doubt I'll ever want to spend enough energy to write articles or do a lot of other work. The closest I come to doing the next thing is filling in information in the Wiki yet find that too cumbersome.

Ok, first of all, I should be a blue poster. I'm the best player here. Second, I accept to be hired for only 4k per week. Come on Heyoka, you know you need me in your life.

The question of the reason people do things is entirely individualistic. At the end of the day people are perfectly entitled to ask for a certain compensation for what they do, and actually probably should if they want to pursue a career in the field. Honestly for people who want a very real timeline on when things are done, strict expectations, and consistent workload, TL is probably not the best place for that. Here things happen at their own pace and live and die by the "passion" kona describes, for good or for ill.
The "old" culture that grew up around a forum of miniscule size covering one of the most isoteric topics on the internet, in many ways, is incompatible with the current marketplace in games other than SC2. But honestly it's a culture I fundamentally believe in as it is driven purely by how much people care in a free space. TL is not, at its core, a money making enterprise.

If TL was build on a foundation centered around making profits first over delivering and sharing game content and the love of it then this wouldn't even be an argument to make a deal out of, but I like to think that it was not and still, at its core, isn't.

at the same time, they've cut down on a lot of avenues that could generate more money (content) for what I assume are bigger plans.

maybe i misread but i just skimmed the thread in question and saw 1 person asking if writers get paid and 1 person saying the site is worth 50 million dollars and so should pay writers.
i think your blog is completely unfounded, and also that it is totally legit for a news network that utilises ads to generate revenue to offer salary to dedicated staff (tho i'm not saying this is relevant to TL).
idk what you do for a living (ie if you are a school kid/student gamer who doesn't have much appreciation for time and money) but i can tell you it would take most people a large degree of work to become experts/writers in a field that they are passionate about and this comes at a cost to those people.
ps: TL has 1 banner advert and sometimes sells tshirts, if you think they are profit-driven then you're a fucktard (not directed at you konadora lol)

the 50 million thing is from a comment in another topic, not kona's views.

I guess I am a fucktard, because I don't think TL is profit-driven. There is a huge difference between needing to get enough money to support yourself and being driven by profit. TL could easily do a lot more to grub for money but they choose not to. 1 banner advert is about as minimal as it gets - think about all the websites that have multiple ads, some of which pop up/overlay/sing and dance, and also think about EG's 80 dollar jersey sale in comparison.

This blog just got real mean all the sudden.
And yes, TL and LD clearly are not trying to choke every last dollar out of us.

I was being nice and letting him know he isn't a fucktard

I think I would rather be a fucktard that can read. I can stop being a fucktard much easier than I can learn to read.
