Well, in my searches of the internet, I found the HS Star League and I thought this was a pretty cool thing. So, I told my animation teacher in highschool and he thought it was cool as well. But, he hosts the video game club at hour school... and he thought I was proposing this idea for the club and not just sharing something interesting. So, I had to present the idea in front of the attendees of the officer's meeting. I went ahead with it because most of these people seemed fairly casual and most of the people in the club didn't play pc games. So, I figured there wouldn't be a whole lot of interest, but I thought this would be a cool opportunity to share esports... and it was extremely well recieved. Now I have to showcase this again on Tuesday to everyone else with a team sign up list for Dota 2, LoL, Hearthstone, and Starcraft... then have two months to get everyone tournament ready so they can make it at least through the first couple games. The only game I know that much about is starcraft and I'm only silver league... and I have a bronze 2 Australian coaching me on weekends about league, but the rest I am basically fucked. So yeah what do you think about this epic mess, and do you think it could be pulled even with a miracle.
Edit: Thanks for the comments. I am taking this a bit to seriously, I'll just train my teams as much as I can and hope for the best, and if it doesn't work out we can still just play for fun or train and they can try again next if they want.

Don't stress out and try to have fun as you do your part in explaining and learning more about those games. Just don't pretend to be an expert on something you're not and you should be set.

Let me ask you this: If you start up this club, and it gets people into these games and having fun, and then you go into a tournament and get absolutely slammed, will you consider it worth your time?
If you turn out to be the best player in the club, nobody there should really care about doing well in tournaments anyway. If I were you I'd de-emphasise the tournament aspect and just focus on having fun and getting better. I don't think it's possible for you to get a group of new players into these games to a tournament capacity in two months. But the real question you should be asking is: Is it necessary to do so?

failing to see how giving yourself a challenge in this way can qualify as being stupid

You should also put StarCraft 2 on the list of games they can sign up for.

That is actually on the list, I just don't think people want to fork over $40 bucks. Trust me if I thought I could do it that would do it <3SC2
