If i were to put up a £200 tournie would there actually be any interest? Not just from the community that happens to read about it but would people who come onto this site give a damn?

of course it would have to be a top10Masters-GM to make sure the quality is there but has anyone who is relatively a nobody ever tried this?

im not trying to make a name for myself or anything, just want to set up a tournie of which people would eventually be invited (past winners and semis) to get a 16 man tournie winner takes all?

im old, work, love sc2 and can waste (wouldnt be a waste tho for me) between 200 and 500 every month. Would people want to play for that? Would bigger names come to it for what i assume a small amount?

I want a bare basic tournie format with minimal on the casting, a lot of pov and a focus on post mortem from the builds and styles. release the reps and make yet another resource for the community

Has anyone seen a nobody try to do this and how much support did they get?

Xtorn, a community member, just recently put on a tournament and it was pretty successful. I recommend putting more than 200£ Into it, saving up for a few months and finding players during that time that would be willing to play as invites and then hold a qualifier or something.

If you do put something together and need help admining or whatever let me know, I'm always willing to help people out with awesome community stuff like this.
I used to play random, but for you I play very specifically.

I hosted a tournament before. It's fun but as far as "support" goes, don't expect anyone to come running to your aid. You need to reach out, but even then, most won't help. Don't be discouraged, people are busy and have their own schedules. I think our tournament got a max of 50 viewers or something, it was fun, but our expectations weren't high.

Well if you're going to run a small online tourney, then it probably isn't advisable to expect too many viewers. I don't know if things have changed much since I stopped following the scene a few months back, but basically, at any viewer-friendly time of the day, there will be somebody better on. Could be one of those big LANs, could be Shoutcraft, could be anything, but there will be something online that is better than your program.

As for players, though, it's a different matter entirely. I know of several world-class players that seem to play in every single online tournament that they can get in (check Hyun's Liquipedia results, for instance). If you can get in touch (or they notice you), it shouldn't be hard to get them to show up.

$200 is good showmatch money, find 2 Pro's/GM streamers and pair them up.

This is what I thought as well. You could also find a good but not premier caster (eg. madals or BasetradeTV) and let him cast it. From what I saw, such showmatches gather from 2 to even ~4k viewers, depending on the players involved.

Actually that's pretty good. Nice, bite-size piece of content that jumps strait to the good match. The money will also be higher for the players, which means you can draw in better players-heck, probably most players. Only a fool would turn down $50 to lose a Bo5.

waw, didnt expect so much response! i dont really want to do it for the mass viewers either, not really got the time to have something get too big!

The idea really is to just add yet another event, one which is as bare bones as you can get, to a point where casting isnt really there. i have an idea that will be totally different from the usual hosted match and a bit more interactive/different for any viewers that it may attract.

ive helped put together a couple of in house tournies in the past, or at least be the support for them and want to see if it can be a little hobby and give the community something to 'watch later'. Thanks for the help offer above tho! May need to call you out on that when my holidays start and i can really get to looking at time scales and as some of you say: reach out to some of the the players that play in a lot of these online tounaments. thankls for the advice tho guys really appreciate it
