you know that wide-angles actually make people look obscenely thin right? unless of course you are talking about him at the edges of the image circle.

IIRC, things nearthe edges get stretched along the circumference and things in the middle appear larger right or am I confusing lens types?

things in the middle appear smaller
it also depends on the quality of the wide-angle and ultra wide-angle. more rectilinear lenses with little to no distortion have less of these effects when compared to things like fisheyes.
