Here's some less know artist, as mine are apparently too famous to be suggest:

Capsule - Caps Lock
Tyrannosaurus Rex - A Beard of Stars
Dub Terminator's Instrumentals
Vivian Girls - Share The Joy

Then again, maybe this is mainstream as well... some artist who weren't know that much few years ago, such as James Blake, Arcade Fire or Vampire Weekend have all gotten really famous now. Besides I haven't keeped up with indie scene that much and haven't had interest in weird sounds for a while, thus I conclude that I'm not eligible to suggest music. I could say that Black Sabbath and Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains released new albums last year, but then that could be labeled mainstream and not innovative as well.

OP, I suggest you check last years top lists on sites such as pitchfork and rolling stones to see what new has happened in the music world.

lol, it's just that in some circles if you suggest beyonce, queen and abba you will be called out as a troll. nothing against those artists, but that was my thought process

(also, T. Rex is quite famous )

woah. This is slightly more than I expected. O_o

Page 1 -

@Laertes -
Protest The Hero - I'm generally wary of metalcore, but this seems alright.

@Arcues -
Angus & Julia Stone - Haunting and beautiful. Sort of like a mix between Marissa Nadler and Elliott Smith? Definitely checking this out.

@hp.Shell -
Guster - Reminds me of Mexican rock (specifically Mana) with those hand drums, acoustic guitars, and wind instruments. Really unique. Instant fan.
Portugal. The Man - I found out about these guys recently thru Tasteless' stream. Good stuff.
Trampled by Turtles - Been looking for some nice folk/country stuff. This is really cool.
Scar Symmetry - You're really bringing the variety. O_o Not in the mood for metal atm, but I'll definitely check it out later. I'm always a fan of metal with clean vocals.
Them Crooked Vultures - awww ye. Totally forgot this was a thing. Kyuss is cool, Foo Fighters is fun, QotSA are rad. I'll probably like this.
Madeon - meh. Sounds like something you'd hear on a commercial or something. Wasn't really looking for dance music either. I'll pass. But I really like your suggestions overall. Thx!

@Bunn -
Sadly, Grumbels is mostly right. I mean, I like a lot of the stuff you listed (Huge fan of DOOM, I've listened to the entirety of Queen, Deftones and Mastodon's discography), but nothing really stands out as... unique. I haven't listened to ABBA, which I might do, but I'm not too interested in doing so. Nothing against it, but there's very few mainstream pop artists that interest me for very long (except for Kate Bush and Regina Spektor, I guess). And the two other things I haven't heard of on that list (Rei Harakami, Mount Kimbie) are EDM (to repeat what I said to hp.Shell, not really looking for dance music)... well, I guess Kimbie is downtempo/dubstep so that could be chill. I'll try that one.

@Omnishroud -
Eminem - I've heard the original MMLP and I love its mad, cacophonous clusterfuck. I'll check this out when I have time. Just finished a large hip-hop binge, so I'm in the mood for other genres atm.

@all the ABBA supporters -
aight. I guess I'll see what all the hype is about

@teddyyoojo -
good kid maad city - I've only listened to singles, but I like em, so I guess I should check out the whole album.

@Grumbels -
I fuckin HATE the Eagles, man.

@ PassiveAce -
DOOM never fails to impress, and everything Dangermouse touches is gold. Love it.

@ ToastedBagel -
Lunar Dunes - Holy Hipster, Batman! These guys don't even have a Wiki page! Sounds nice though. Particularly enjoying the drums. Good music for laddering.

@Sicion -
The Glitch Mob - Not exactly sure what I think about these guys. The opening on that track was impressive, but as soon as it became more beat-focused it kinda lost my attention. I really love the Metroid-vide to some of the effects, but not a fan of the repetitive dance side. This is something I'd love to go to a live show and dance to, but not something I'd have on my ipod. Do these guy have other stuff that's more aural? I think I'd like that more.
Cloudkicker - Some impressive tempo changes, but makes the same mistake most 'math' bands do - which is not focusing on the emotion. Sure, the music changes a lot, but the tone and feel never does. Nevertheless, I'll check out some more of these guys.
Fabrizo Paterlini and A&M - kinda cool I guess. Nothing that stands out and makes me want to check out more.

ah that's disappointing. Coincidentally, Fantano reviewed this album today, and I'll take his word, since I generally agree with him.

Best two ABBA albums are Arrival & The Album, by the way (mostly indisputable). My favorite song of theirs is Eagle.
