Its just a very big cloud in space. But, for some of you, it may look familiar ...
Doesn't this space cloud bare an uncanny resemblance to the planet killer from Doomsday Machine (ST:TOS) ? If it is, we still have a couple thousand years until it reaches us :x

Umm... planet killer?
The cosmic caterpillar is a star that is forming. The tail is the result of other stars creating solar winds and eroding it as it forms. So I'm not sure what you mean by planet killer.

For people who aren't getting the apparent reference, this is a very misleading thread. Basically, NASA took a picture of something kinda cool? What is there to discuss? This doesn't seem to warrant a thread. If there is more to this OP please pm me with what information you can add to the OP to illicit discussion.
