This wont be a pretty post. If I spend an hour I can draw something that vaguely resembles a dragoon in MS Paint, but that's about it for my artistic side. Buuut I feel like sharing music. I like it so much I have a tendency to spam links till I get the appropriate amount of attention. So instead of spamming everyone I figured I could just post it all here. I do have a blog or two off-site, but those are both in Norwegian and fairly useless to the majority of people I know on TL. Anyway, I'll split this up into sections for MVs and non-MV stuff.
Cool-ass songs
RAC's newest track, Let Go, features Kele and MNDR. Oh my god I'd completely forgotten how in love I am with Kele's voice. I obsessed over Silent Alarm, and this track is about as playful as Banquet, which I kinda forgot Kele could do. I guess we can blame MNDR for that. Oh, Kele's the singer in Bloc Party.
Here's a track that isn't new. Double Exposure's Everyman was released in 1976. It's a vibrant example of disco era music. I'm gonna be completely honest and admit I wouldn't have found out about them if LBCK hadn't sampled it for one of their tracks, I can't remember which.
Digitalism has always been one of those bands I've never really quite understand. They're... trance/techno/pop or something. Idunno. I just remember I loved 2 Hearts off their I Love You, Dude album. And that was it. I guess some of their tracks are comparable to Does It Offend You, Yeah or something. Anyway, their new EP is coming out soon and it's a venture back into techno with some dirty beats accompanying it. I don't like it, you might. Check it out.
If you like Chromeo, you'll either love this track or think of it as a cheap rip-off. Skream's new single, Rollercoaster, features vocals from some dude named Sam Frank that I'm not familiar with. Either way, this track has got some serious amounts of funky disco vibes injected into it. Just listen to the bass. And that danceable four-step percussion. Sam's voice is good at least.
Somehow one of my favorite producers of all time, Robotaki, managed to release another remix without my finding out about it till a couple days later. I guess my love with Robotaki stems from his remixes being some of the most cheerful music I've ever found. I first found out about him after he remixed Housse De Racket's Roman (which is a lovely track in its own right). Then it just didn't stop coming. An instrumental remix of Chilly Gonzales' You Can Dance made it into all my weekend playlists for a couple months, while his remix of Penguin Prison's Fair Warning would be on repeat for literally hours during my bus rides back and forth when visiting my parents. It was also a go-to tune whenever we made it home safely after a night of heavy drinking. Then there's the remix of Phoenix' 1901 remix. Considering how much of a Phoenix fanboy I used to be this was fucking glorious. Oh, and the Van She remix he did was and is one of the most chill trax ever. Check it out.
But, yes, he has a new remix and it's classic Robotaki. The M Machine - A King Alone. Also I heard he likes K-pop. At least he did some Girls' Generation remixes back in the day.
If you haven't heard of Postiljonen till now, I feel sorry for you. They made THE song of the summer with their song Supreme. Their other song, Atlantis was pretty good too. Their next new track is a smooth move over to fall for me, and will probably be on my list for a couple of months at least. Check out When All The Wild Things Die.
Here's one I've probably pushed on most people already, but it's just so good. Alex Metric. Jacques Lu Cont. Malin from Niki & the Dove. All in one package, making the dancefloor track of the year with some seriously sexy kicks, one of the best (cutest?) voices ever, and a melting hot bassline. Check out Safe With You. You wont regret it.
Non-shitty new music videos
Chela's cool. I first found out about her when Goldroom featured her voice in Fifteen from last year, which ended up being my main tune for the summer. She dropped off my radar when she released a couple 90's pop inspired tracks that I really didn't like at all. With the release of Romanticise I was in love again. The Gold Fields remix is less cute and more bang0r, but it kinda works. Apparently RAC let it slip that there'll be a remix coming from over there as well.
Flume and Moon Holiday worked together on this track that got released like a full year ago on Flume's debut album (which is fucking amazing, go check it out. It's on Soundcloud and on Spotify.
BANKS is pretty and her voice is god-tier. The video for Waiting Game is also pretty, albeit a tiny bit cliché and unoriginal.
Bits n pieces
So GTA IV is going to have a complete radiostation devoted to Soulwax. That's right, a station with tracks handpicked by the techno legends. The channel will feature Soulwax themselves, Gesaffelstein, Jacques Lu Cont, Green Velvet & Harvard Bass and In Flagranti, plus plus. That alone is a good reason to buy the game. Along with the gameplay. I was never a GTA fan.
So, is this something I should never do again? Anything I can improve on? Less talk more pictures and links? Anything?
