Some friends and I are planning a trip to Prague this autumn. We are planning to stay for 5 days. Does anyone have some experience he is willing to share? Any tips for sightseeing, hostels etc. are very appreciated. Thx

As for sightseeing, one of the biggest advantage that Prague has over many other nearby big cities (such as Wien or Budapest) is its setting, which is probably the biggest sight in itself - the Castle is on a hill overlooking the river with the Old Town. The view from there and from the nearby parks on Petrin hill are superb, as is the view from the river bridged up to the castle. So even if you do choose some specific sights, go on foot at least part of the way, as it is half of the fun.

About one hour away from Prague is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sedlec_Ossuary you can even get there on a fairly cheap bus. for food: The ambiente 'chain' of restaurants were really good value for money.

I can't tell you how many cool restaurants, sights, bars, museums, etc the city has. That and taqueirias is basically the only thing san francisco, where I live, offers and I was still blown away. The history of the communist occupation in the area is also very interesting. A lot of the touristy stuff is extremely legit, also. St Vitus's is a must visit.

My mind is blown after thirty years of living in Prague Well, I avoided the Charles Bridge for about two years while living there, so I had to go to other places .Some general advice as well: Just take a 7 day pass for public transport, you can go everywhere by bus/metro/tram within reasonable time. During the rush hour, metro trains will run every 90 seconds or so. Carry a map of the metro system, all the bus timetables will show the stops that are metro stops as well with a special symbol, makes it really easy to orientate yourself. Buses and trams will also wait for you if they see you running. Beer prices in pubs in the center are about double of what they will charge a couple of kilometres away. This place had the best hamburgers in town I was able to find: http://www.bilavrana.com/ it's about 3 minutes on foot away from the television tower, which is kinda interesting. Some pubs also have topless waitresses during the daytime, one I know is not far away from the crematory. This beer garden here is the favorite watering hole for the expat community, watching the soccer world cup there was nice: http://www.praguebeergarden.com/pubs/post/riegrovy-sady-beer-garden
