Phalanx's Daily #70: Expa... errr all-in!

Johnson, the lovable 1-st scouting probe! Dream profession is Aiur Head Chef.


Mike the stalker. Hardest working of them all, and single-handedly preventing scouting and pressure, while receiving the least credit.


Emily, the mothership core. Has a secret love for education, but quickly gets out of hand and fires photons all over the place if pissed off.


Snowden, the sneaky observer, watching out for the protoss race. He checks your computer history too.


Clyde, the zealot. Often times forgotten about due to cutting corners in the early game, and is always brought around in clutch situations.

So today I'm feeling a little bit lazier than usual, so I'm going to skip the parts that are unimportant!

The map is Bel'Shire Vestige - personally my 2nd favorite map, only surpassed by Whirl Wind. The zerg goes for an extremely greedy build, making his 3rd base at 17 supply. Greedy zergs work well for me, since my build is even more greedy.


Huehuehue, lets see who's gluttony is greater...

I make my 3rd base at 6 minutes, while waiting a little bit on making the 4th because an overlord was right over it... As I move out with my first oracle, his lings move out to my 3rd. A slight error by me in that I didn't defend my 3rd (he managed to kill it off) but in exchange I got some serious economic damage in to his nearly undefended main.


7 drones and a queen... today was a good day.

The pattern goes on a few more times, with me focusing my oracles on harassment while he counterattacked my 3rd with lings. I came out on top of the worker count, with the harass really paying off. He didn't even have the drones to fully saturate 3 bases, making his advantage minute.


Mmmm trading damage again. How annoying!

Since I felt that I had done enough economic damage, I decided to commit to a full out gateway+oracle attack instead of trying to secure more bases. My warpgate research was extremely late (finishing at 11 minutes) and so the attack was delayed by a lot. had I gotten that earlier I think that the attack would have gone a lot smoother, probably less of a bank building up.



To combat my oracles my enemy gets hydras. How cute. My army began to build up and consisted of about 6 oracles with zealots, pumping out as many as I could. My proxy was a little ways off and I had enough bank to have made a larger gateway count, but i attacked anyways. the attack was a bit premature, falling short of a killing blow.


Clyde 1 2 and 3 get killed off without achieving anything with their lives.

After my attack moves back, the zerg makes a deadly mistake by droning up. He creates 12 drones (all of his larvae) and has none left over to create the army that he needs to fend off my attack that was soon to commence.



I added in even more oracles to the mix, and started up a 3rd base simply because I had an excess bank (I would have preferred to make only units but I didn't have the production for that). The zerg reacted well by moving in to kill off my throw away 3rd, except that his hydras were left behind to the mercy of my oracles.


Or rather, their lack-thereof.

He had a mere 3 hydralisks in production due to lack of gas, while I had 6 oracles banging his natural with 16 Clyde clones on the way to reinforce the attack. His mistaken timings to drone up cost him the game to my zealot/oracle all-in of sorts.


Yee haw oracles. Chewin' through hydras like it ain't no thang.
