If you're like me, you are in Japan and you want to play StarCraft. Perhaps you're an overseas student, or here on business, or on a lengthy holiday trip, but in either case, you find yourself here and wanting to play. This blog is for you!

This blog is for me to introduce a few places that you can play, and hopefully others will chime in any obvious places I fail to mention.

The first place is e-sports SQUARE:

They're located in Chiba Prefecture and are almost right outside the Ichikawa station on the Chuo-sen JR train line:
〒272-0034
千葉県市川市市川1丁目6-6
もりやすビル2F

Chiba-Prefecture, Ichikawa-shi, Ichikawa 1-6-6
Moriyasu Building 2nd Floor

3 hours time will cost you just under 1,000 yen. The staff is friendly and speaks a little English. If you're lucky enough to get the SC2 head, Yohei, you might get a few practice games in as he's currently a Master's Zerg on NA. Checking their website, you can tweet at them and join in on some events, too.

Another place is WIP, a net cafe with a lot of locations.
They have places in Chiba, Tokyo, Kanegawa, Aichi, Osaka, Hiroshima, Saitama, and Hyogo.
They're a more generic place but with a lot more locations.

One nice benefit is that with HotS and region-free play, from Japan you can play on the Korean server with good latency. I hope you guys have a great time in Japan and can satisfy your need for Starcraft here!

That place looks super clean, really nice.
Next time I head to Japan I may swing by if it's still around ;p

I don't really care for WIP much, we used to have barcraft at one and I have just found those places kind of creepy with all the old men reading manga all the time.

I heard that people in Japan can't play on NA due to connection issues. Have they fixed that yet?

You can play here on NA. I`ve been coming and playing at WIP for a while now. It`s cool if you get a 3-hr pack and spend a little under 800 yen. Also, the equipment differs by station but the one I`m at now is a Steel Series Sensei and a 6G V2.

The latency to NA or KR is pretty smoking good, too. Japan is geographically pretty well situated to access either server.

so sc2 is not really big in japan? and people are usually < masters at these kind of PC cafes in Japan?

Thanks just wondering because I want to take a trip to AZN country (hvnt decided yet which one) and play some sc2. Korea is obvious choice but I don't want to rule out China/Japan/Singapore

My thoughts exactly. It also looks like a really nice setup. What is the table in the second picture for?

All my friends and I have never had any connection issues to NA or any server. Apparently some ISPs are having issues, but my friends all have different ISPs and we have always been fine.

I used the table with the manager while we were planning some of the details for the upcoming CSL tournament. I think it's just a open table for laptops, eating, etc.

I haven't seen BW installed on the computers but I can't imagine it'd be trouble to get it on there.

I have yet to see another SC2 player there. The few JP players I've spoken with tend to be higher-ranked; like diamond, masters, some are platinum.

What's the Dota2 scene like in Japan? I would imagine LoL is more popular because I've seen nazomen play it a couple times on his stream.

I've played LoL with nazomen once. It was pretty neat.

As far as I know, Dota 2 is pretty low-key in Japan. I know of a few people who tried it out shortly after it was released (the game is actually pretty well-localized in Japanese) but most of them went back to LoL eventually.
