So yeah. Ask me anything you want and I'll answer.

Right now I'm just chilling at my desk, sipping a glass of whiskey, listening to music, totally in the mood to write but don't know what to say.

If you don't know what to ask, here are some things I'm interested in and/or knowledgeable on:
- economics
- finance and business
- biology (especially evolution and natural selection)
- international relations (especially east/se asia)
- energy (renewables, energy efficiency, clean tech, etc)
- cooking and food
- health and fitness
- martial arts / self defense
- alcohol (whiskey, beer, mixed drinks)
- sc bw and sc2 (more bw since i played that a lot more and followed the pro scene more closely)
- stepmania and FFR
- touhou
- ping pong / table tennis
- movies (with a good story)
- tv shows (spongebob, futurama, star trek, twilight zone)

And more, but I figured I'll just let people ask away at whatever they want....

surprisingly, it was (on the old battle.net). i made the name back around 2002 or 2003 when playing bw and i used ieatkids4 because ieatkids was taken. i just like the number 4. then when i registered on TL (2004) i changed it to 5 for no good reason.

and nice, im having bushmills. i like the fruitier and creamier taste and feel of irish whiskies more than scotch or american. you?

closest thing i've had to a kid was goat. i dont think they use young goats for goat meat, so it wasn't truly a kid.

that's a bit... broad. i like to make stuff like stews, soups, stir fry, rice-based dishes, noodles (kinda rare nowadays though cuz im trying to stay away from processed foods), pan-fried or pan-seared meats and fish.... really there's a ton of stuff that i enjoy. i dont really bake or make desserts/pastries or that sorta thing though. my cooking is influenced by traditional homestyle southern chinese cooking (from my parents), traditional american cooking (like the stews, roasts), and some relatively new paleo-style ways of cooking (using only unprocessed foods, little or no grain/gluten, good balance of meats, fats and oils, veggies, fruits....)

if you want something easy take the following ingredients and stick em all in a pot of water, and heat it until it simmers for 35-40 minutes.
- chicken thighs/drumsticks
- your choice of green veggies
- onions, peppers, carrots, garlic, herbs, other spices

if you want something fast, then it depends on what you already have. a can of tuna with some spring mix salad and a bit of olive oil is delicious, healthy, and quick to make. eat a banana, apple, and avocado with that too.

another quick dish to make is an omelette. 3-5 eggs, whip them up, put some butter on the skillet, and cook. throw in onions, mushrooms, bacon, ground beef, rice, or whatever the hell you want.

My question: do you have any school/college advice? :D I'm curious because after reading the ss blog and then with quite a few people calling him out on it (lol), I wonder what you'd have to say, what with your experience~

I don't have a question for you, but Three Extremes was the movie that got me into asian horror; saw it at a film festival when I was in college with no idea what to expect. Box was incredible; Cut didn't really do anything for me though. I'll have to check out that series of blogs!

@Aerisky

i'm actually only qualified in some areas, most would fall in the "interested in" category. that's why i put "interested in and/or knowledgeable on." don't wanna make the claim that im knowledgeable on all the listed topics!!

school/college - depends! are you in high school or college now? and what do you want to do? you dont have to answer the last question definitively, just give me some more info about yourself so i can give you a better answer.

and are you referring to the blog shadysands just posted?

Oh I just wrote that because a lot of people got tisk-tisked for making "ask me" blogs haha. But yeah I agree, and your answers so far are also really interesting. I looked at your profile and dayummm since 2004. That's when Roger Federer first got to world no. 1!

And yeah that was the blog to which I was referring. If you have any input on that I'm curious too I guess

And yeah that was the blog to which I was referring. If you have any input on that I'm curious too I guess

i think that's a really good career path if you enjoy EE. and it seems like you've put some thoughtful reasoning behind your choices. i agree that if you want to do EE (technical and then managerial), then doing EE in undergrad and working (and/or go to grad school for more EE or something else like an MBA) is a solid choice. the job market for engineering is much better than what i did, which was international relations, so you shouldnt have any trouble finding a job.

if you are also interested in finance, or want to study both EE and finance, i would still recommend going EE in undergrad. you can do EE in undergrad and then do an MBA with a finance focus, but you can't really get a finance undergrad degree and hope to do any engineering in grad school.

i pretty much agree with everything he put in his blog. but just to clarify on the point on drugs - i think trying something like weed is fine, and college is probably the best time to do it. it's about getting the experience. and hopefully, the decisions you make after that will be good for your future. for something like heroin though, the difference is that the risk for harm is much much higher, and the experience will not be worth it.

just like i would suggest someone, after drinking alcohol several times, to go ahead and slowly push himself until he gets pretty drunk. the risk from this (if done under the right circumstances) is pretty low, and you get the experience and knowledge of the feelings, the emotions, the sensations, and knowing how much you can handle (which helps a lot when youre drinking).

well i wanted to thank doctorhelvetica, since it was his series of horror blogs that got me into asian horror. i posted there to acknowledge this fact, and hopefully generate some more discussion on three extremes from who ever is interested. too bad no one responded~

I don't have a question for you, but Three Extremes was the movie that got me into asian horror; saw it at a film festival when I was in college with no idea what to expect. Box was incredible; Cut didn't really do anything for me though. I'll have to check out that series of blogs!

yeah, i got the same vibes as you and the doctor did. cut wasnt my cup of tea. box was quite the experience, and the ending made me think hard about which parts were real, which parts were the dream, and which parts were the dream/illusion in a dream. i also really enjoyed dumplings. there's a feature-length version of dumplings, with some extended backstory and a different ending i think, but i havent gotten around to watching it.

i'm actually only qualified in some areas, most would fall in the "interested in" category. that's why i put "interested in and/or knowledgeable on." don't wanna make the claim that im knowledgeable on all the listed topics!!

school/college - depends! are you in high school or college now? and what do you want to do? you dont have to answer the last question definitively, just give me some more info about yourself so i can give you a better answer.

and are you referring to the blog shadysands just posted?

Oh I just wrote that because a lot of people got tisk-tisked for making "ask me" blogs haha. But yeah I agree, and your answers so far are also really interesting. I looked at your profile and dayummm since 2004. That's when Roger Federer first got to world no. 1!

I'm actually a rising freshman for college! I think I want to do engineering (EE then go from technical to managerial after working, god willing I get a job and whatnot) but recently I've been having second thoughts and I've been thinking of doing finance or related, I dunno >< I'm pretty open-minded+curious in general and I'm not too sure about my future etc, but I was just wondering whether you had any advice and input

Hmm that all makes a lot of sense. Thanks dude :D

Funny idea.

Unfortunately you lost your e-credibility as my advisor when you claimed that you liked movies with good stories and listed:

Winning internet arguments since it was cool.

How did eyes evolve?

I understand the basic concepts of evolution.
Random mutation -> turns out to be advantageous -> the creatures that have that particular gene reproduce more -> the mutation spreads among future generations

But eyes are very complex systems that exist in their form today after many, many random mutations.
So what made the first mutations that didn't actually allow the creatures to "see" worthwhile to keep?

Additionally, here's a demonstration by Dawkins:

The demonstration basically shows the evolution of the eye, which makes it possibly more tangible for people. I recommend reading articles on it, however, such as the Wiki article mentioned above.

Is a business degree worth it if you want to be an entrepreneur? How is a business degree helpful, and how are the classes?

oh, which movie do you think doesnt have a good story? batman begins probably has the weakest story out of those 5, but makes up for it by cool characters (loved cillian murphy as scarecrow)

given my lack of experience with entrepreneurship, i would say that:

- networking, practical skills, conversational and interpersonal skills, are more important than what business classes teach you

- if you want to start a company, having a solid understanding of finance, accounting, and econ would be helpful, as well as the technical aspects of the industry you plan to start your company in

- there are soooo many ways to start a business, and there are too many factors and circumstances to give a good guideline of how you should start. you could have a high school degree, start working somewhere, work your way up, and eventually gain enough experience to start your own. you could get a business degree in undergrad and do the same thing. you can do something more technical, like statistics or engineering, in undergrad and work to get experience and then start a company. you could do something technical in undergrad and then get an MBA for a masters. it really depends on your style, resources, situation, etc.

- if you know which field/industry you want to start a business in, then study that in undergrad instead of getting a business degree. study computer science or networking or IT if you want to manage/start that kind of company. or engineering or biology or whatever.

- again, im not an entrepreneur, nor am i a business major. ive only taken a few classes and have done online self-studying.
