How do I know? Because I am the only kid who ever had a fit over NOT wanting a smartphone. My parents and Michael are pushing me to get one because Hurricane Sandy is coming and has the potential to collide with a cold front here, making a sort of "perfect storm" that could be worse than Irene.
For the love of...I LIVE IN NEW ENGLAND, HOW MANY HURRICANES CAN I BE EXPECTED TO TAKE IN A LIFETIME?! This is RIDICULOUS! Michael should be the one taking the brunt of this, not me...he lives in Florida for crying out loud! I don't want a smartphone even if it is from Samsung...I already have a perfectly good Samsung phone. I don't want to waste my money on another phone I will never use. It's not fair that I get everything handed to me...why should I get everything for free and not many other people? This probably makes me insane, but I'm just frustrated and need to vent. Perhaps I'm taking my fear, anticipation, and past frustration from Irene out on the phone.
Am I the only one who thinks Sandy doesn't sound remotely threatening though? At least Irene sounded vaguely dangerous, like the old woman who sits on her porch all day who you really don't want to get too close to because she might have a shotgun hidden under all those blankets...Sandy is like, your distant but friendly aunt.

P.S.: For those of you who want me to write that Crank/MMA slash story, just be patient...I'm working on it.
P.P.S.: To those who don't get what it has to do with the storm, it's so that if the internet gets knocked out, I can still have access via 4G. That's the reason behind it. Perhaps "I Am Unique" was not exactly the best title for this entry...hmm. Though the point was I very nearly had a fit of rage over being nearly forced to get one and I doubt many have gone to that length...unique does not mean good. ; P

Sandy sounds more like the blonde ditz at the beach who trips over everything. Probably why she's headed up to New England instead of here

That doesn't sound particularly unique.

you are basically right, we westerners are so neurotic about everything, I blame the consistent fearmongering of the media. Our everyday stuff, like driving cars or biking to the supermarket are far more dangerous than natural disasters that happen from time to time.

My younger brothers and I don't want smartphones either.
I also don't understand what your type of phone has to do with the upcoming storm. Will your current phone not work anymore?

Don't really know how this pertains to your situation, but the title of your blog made me think of it.
Also, I don't even own a cellphone (by choice), where am I on the "against the grain" scale?

So what you are saying is that worrying about a storm that has the very real chance to be incredibly destructive or worrying about your families wellness or where the members of said family are during the storm is a Western thing?

no, but we tend to exagerate. As already said, many of our daily activities are more dangerous, nevertheless we do them and surprise, surprise, we still live. As an iphone would save the guy from a storm, the thought process alone makes me laugh

You don't want a smartphone because you think you'll find good use for it. It's not really all that unique, I'm sorry.

Didnt want one either, then i got the iphone 4s...Now i cant live without it, even though i hardly use it now, i still wouldnt want to be without it xD
