I was just having a "brunch" with my gay friend, who has tourettes, and one of my jewish friends. I call it a "brunch" because I haven't actually eaten anything yet. I just made 2 cups of my mixed drink and that should get me through most of the day before I get hungry again.
At brunch, my gay friend remarked that even though a lot of the stuff that I did was weird, he still was glad that I am his friend and that I am going to college here. Here, a guy who is gay, has tourettes, has spells of anti-depression, and gets black out drunk on a weekly basis was telling me that I was weird.
After the initial humor about the situation calmed down, I started to think...I am somewhat weird. By weird though, I do not fit the social-norm of what an Asian person usually is. I stand out like a sore thumb sometimes.
That got me thinking about this up coming break and going back home. I was outside for about 5 minutes, just catching up on some fresh air and there was a group of girls saying good bye to each other because 2 of them were going home and the other one was staying here.
Anyone I want to say good bye to? Not really. There are a lot of people that said good bye to me, and I also wish them a good bye as well, but as for me actually looking for my friends to say good bye to, whats the point? I mean if they are my friends, I'm going to see them after our break ends. I will be home for the weekend and be back at school by Monday night so it's basically a weekend of not seeing them. My point is the break is NOT long at all. I guess I am weird. Isn't everyone though? I mean humans sexually reproduce, more genetic variation, more diversity within a species, so biologically speaking being "weird" could either mean I am either someone who is gonna be really successful, or someone that is gonna be a complete bum. Fortunately, I realize that my past actions don't dictate what my future will look like. I choose to look towards a brighter future and proactively try to make that happen probably along with the majority of the rest of the population.
The formula for success is not hard work. It's smart work and what you decide to put all that hard work into that eventually defines your life (coming from an 18 year old LOL)
On that note, I plan on going back to my closet-nerd life and playing sc2 at home the whole weekend. LoL is such an easy game, I played a couple games with my friend last night and I ended up having more gold accumulated throughout the games than him. I am such a good ricer...

I don't think you're weird, SoR. You're an intellectually curious and fascinating and very interesting person.

One day you're going to be like "man, I used to be so pretentious." Jus cos you tune into different wave lengths of the intellect does not give you the right to talk down to others. Sooner or later God'll break you down.
Edit: It's sentences like this that are your main claim to fame. People love to grapple with this kind of thing if they've been there themselves.

Yeah some brands do. I'm talking about when a store gets a skid of wholesale in and you unpackage it to put on the shelf. Even if you have a well developed intellect you don't feel so smart when you have those "doh!!" moments. ya know?? gotta remember you're a clumsy animal sometimes. Ya you might deserve it. I know I always got called weird, I still do actually, but now I realize a lot of the time it was actually because I am not very well adjusted to some social situations. ie over looking things that others have found to be important. But yes, sometimes people are just hatin' and want to dish their crap on to you. I'm glad you know better than to accept it. This is addessed to sore/soar. Soarry. i should get off here. NOt made for these internet forums t-t

Do you think mentioning immediately that your two friends are one gay and one jewish portray you as "liberally open/tolerant/progressive?" It has the opposite effect.

Sexual orientation and religion don't tell us much, if at all, about them (except bring to mind the stereotypes we have). Describing their personality and giving a little background would be far, far more relevant.

the question shouldnt be "who or what is weird?" it should be "who or what is normal?"
people like to think of themself as normal but really everybody has something that they enjoy which might perciece as not "normal". I prefer thinking that every human has different things he enjoys and should not be judged based on that. Often the most "normal" persons have the kinkiest quirks.

How is what any of you said weird?
Tell me about how you licked peanut butter off your pet hamster, then you can say you're weird. Right now you are well within the spectrum of normal social preferences and choices. For as many people who need to say good bye before they leave, there are equally as many who will just be on their way for the weekend (if not a larger, quieter majority, given the alienation of our modern age).
Consider the possibility that what your friend said was not particularly thought out or meaningful. Or that you and your friend have a barely functional definition of the word which ends up encompassing all of humanity. Weird is something that should be shocking and fantastic. A person with twenty different pets of varying species. A person who keeps a pet lizard in their hair. A person who can recite appropriate Shakespearean lines on all occasions and contexts. A person with penguin flippers for arms. A person who had their leg amputated just because they didn't like the mole on it. A turquoise cat.

Well if I just name off different stuff that makes me shocking and fantastic, it just comes off as bragging.
For example, I am a 300apm Terran. That probably separates me from more than 99% of the rest of the world right there.
