I don't know where else to put this, so I'll just post this here.

The question is, "What does one do with fame?"

I am becoming a bigger and bigger casting socialite in Taiwan. It all started when, last Thursday I was casting for the ASL again. My group ended up finishing early, and that group I casted in English. But the entire time, I had roughly 10 viewers. Really pitiful for a guy who wakes up at 6:00 a.m. for publicity. So when my group was finished, I started the other group's 2 sets. (including AriaPRIME) This time it was different. I started casting in Chinese and told my ten or so viewers to post my channel on their facebooks and PTT, and tell everyone that I, the American, the foreigner, would be casting in Chinese. I peaked at about 130 viewers, and altogether, my channel that day received 1,140 viewers. I got so many subscribers, somewhere around 80 of them. My total number of subscribers has reached 265 for justin.tv (in just two sittings where I used Chinese to cast), and I've received almost 100 Facebook friends and subscribers. If things truly continue at this rate... I might be eligible for a justin.tv partnership, and become backed with a payed sponsorship.

The reason why I mention this is, I'm a little scared of what the results may mean. Look at Destiny. Everyone who plays Starcraft knows who he is. My stream quality parallels his (and by parallel, I mean has quality similar to his in all aspects except maybe sound quality and my video card). The question is, "Do I really want this?" Inevitably, there might be some places that I can't go to without people knowing who I am (internet cafes and the such). If this continues, I could end up being put on TV even more. The real thing is, I won't know if this what I want until it actually happens.

And for those of you who are interested, I will be casting the ASL tomorrow in Chinese. The entire event. If anyone who happens to view this thread and has the power to do so, I would like the option of adding either a Chinese flag or an American flag next to my stream when I stream a tournament event. I've tried directly emailing the admins of TL.net, but so far I haven't gotten a reply.

Other notes: stay tuned for a very important "revelation" from me in the coming weeks. I want to say more, but as the Chinese say, ”深藏不落“。

Well, first of all: Calm down.

If things truly continue at this rate

A huge if, that is. You cannot tell whether things will go this way or not. Since you don't really know if you really want that, you won't need to be sad if you stay with your 100 FB friends and ~300 justin.tv subscribers.

The real thing is, I won't know if this what I want until it actually happens.

So what is the worst case here? You get famous, will get recognized at internet cafes etc. and you don't like it. What then? Just stop it! The internet is fast-forgetting and you will soon not be recognized anymore. You could even start casting games in English again, I guess.

Go for it. Don't give up on something because you're afraid of fame.

As Shady Sands said, don't hesitate to do something from fear of fame. While it's nice to realize that fame isn't necessarily desirable despite general societal stereotypes to the contrary, don't let it prevent you from going after something. At the same time, don't get too far ahead of yourself and just keep at it.

This blog proves that you are absolutely not afraid of fame. You crave it.
Being a ho doesn't automatically make you "immoral" or a bad person, but it does make you a ho.

Your not famous yet my friend, but dont be afraid of it. Keep doing what you love and what happens happens. If you get famous, you'll probably start getting paid to do what you love, who doesnt want that?

And by, not famous yet i mean, 250 subscribers is a nice amount, but doesnt make you famous I mean, i know some guy with 3000+ subs and weekly 1k+ viewer count, do you know who he is? I didnt untill he played through resident evil 2 and i was so bored to be browsing twitch on a random, and i havent watched him since. xD

Good luck, make it big! You have nothing to worry about.

One thing you should consider, most people don't know any casters apart from maybe the top ten guys in the field. And those guys basically have made a sustainable career out of casting. So basically, either no one will really know who you are anyways, or you will have a legitimate income from starcraft.
How does it feel knowing you wasted another 3 seconds of your life reading this again?

At present, I have sponsors, but only free hardware because I'm not famous.

LOOOOOL.

I mean stuff that is more along the lines of living like a playboy on their side of the planet. One of the guys who does the same exact thing that I do (casting for the same event as me) is getting paid 2,000 USD just for committing a few hours every week, and I'm not too terribly sure about the drama that he has to deal with day to day.

If you guys want, I could wait until the event is concluded in a few hours and take a screenshot of my justin.tv traffic.

nevermind, once again this was nothing worth bragging about.... Today I got 360 views, even with my stream on teamliquid.net on every page, and I only gained 15 followers for my justin.tv channel.

EDIT: I didn't post on PTT, which is one of the main forums for SC2 in Taiwan. No one even uses the battle.net forums for the Taiwan realm.

Still, with what I have achieved thus far... I think if I went back to Taiwan, then casting would make for a good side-job. Even if it was just in English.

I'm confused. You're getting 100 viewers and you're worried about fame? What is this? Good luck tho.
