Hey guys, had the opportunity to write up another article that was SC2 related on our website, so I figured I would share it with TL.

The final match, a TvP, Fantasy versus Jangbi, the rematch of the previous OSL Finals, and it was iconic. Jangbi breaking the Legend of the Fall some say, others say it was appropriate as it was the fall of Brood War, either way; JangBi came out on top, winning the last two OSL finals consecutively. Many fans of Starcraft II who had never tuned into a Brood War game came out to watch, myself included. We watched Flash come so close to leaving Brood War as the ultimate king, getting to the semi-finals, but he still kept his crown as the last Bonjwa of Brood War. Many people of our era played Brood War, but it was about time that the full transition to Starcraft II occurred.

At the current stage of the transition, the Kespa Players show great potential in Starcraft II, but like Foreigners vs GSL Players, they are not quite at that point where they can compete at the level of kings of GOM. None of the kings of Kespa are doing very well at this time, Jaedong, Flash, Fantasy, Zero, and Bisu all showing pretty poor results playing against the GOM players. In WCS’s South Korean Nationals Preliminaries, Flash took out SlayerS Brown, but lost to MVP Sniper, a player who lost in the first round of Code S last season. Zero lost to fellow Kespa player Snow, who surprisingly took out Nestea, but later lost to SlayerS Miya. Bisu ran into Fnatic’s Moon in the first round and was taken down easily. Fantasy was taken out 2-0 by Startale Pet, who has never had much notable success in SC2. Finally Jangbi, the reigning king of Brood War, managed to take down MVP Galaxy, and Fnatic Luvsic, but lost to fellow Kespa player Dear. Is this transition going to allow those who never had much success in Brood War to rise to the top in Starcraft II?

One player in particular has received much attention from the Starcraft II community for being the only Kespa player to make it out of the WCS Preliminaries, Samsung KHAN’s Terran player Reality. Reality has won five of his nine Starcraft II matches in the Proleague Hybrid Tournement; most impressively taking out GOM players TSL Shine, TSL Symbol, and compLexity Heart during the WCS Preliminaries.

With quite impressive TvZ, Reality managed to take out SlayerS YugiOh in the first round of the WCS South Korean Nationals, making his win rate in official Starcraft II matches around 80% in TvZ. If Reality had only Zerg players to face, the idea of him making top ten, would be far from unlikely. Unfortunately his other two matches, TvT and TvP are mediocre at best, both floating around 50%. In the round of two, knowing his stats, I had figured SlayerS Puzzle to have an easy 2-0, but Reality showed great effort forcing the decision to come down to the final game; unfortunately, he still couldn’t close it out and was defeated by Puzzle. Due to his placement in the bracket he will have to face up against the winner of IM MVP versus IM Happy; which unless a meteor came crashing onto his opponents computer, the chances are slim. I do wish Reality the best of luck, and hope he can turn out great games and victories over the GOM residents.

I want to end this article by mentioning Reality’s Zerg teammate RorO, who has also been showing great results in the WCS South Korean Nationals, taking out Startale Hack, and more surprisingly FXO’s juggernaut Leenock. RorO is only one match away from qualifying for the WCS Asian Championships and showing the world that Kespa players have the skills to compete with the best of the GOM players; that’s not just a possibility, it’s a reality.

Hope you guys can enjoy it, and give me pointers for any future articles I get to write,

Much Luv

I don't like this repetitive usage of 'king of ______' for some reason. It seems too...shallow, as does 'legend' (lol Usain Bolt). They were indomitable, dominating, charismatic, and hard-working, but...kings?

Oh, and

no escape from reality

also no, I'm pretty sure we specifically try to avoid the term "bonjwa" to describe flash (this has been discussed to death a hundred times)

Unless this is some inside joke where he isn't a bonjwa because he is "God"; statistically he easily qualifies as a bonjwa, even with the presence of Jaedong.

Now, if people want to claim that the era of the bonjwas ended with sAviOr, and that it is a term less about the numbers involved and more about a period of time in BW history, fine. What I am referring to is unrivaled statistical dominance over a significant period of time.

Yeah why exactly didn't we give him the crown? It almost seemed like an open joke. Where everyone knew Flash was the uncontested best player in the scene (repeated anhilations of his only possible rival, Jaedong). He also had some ridiculous win streaks. What exactly were we waiting for?

Because the Korean press never called him a Bonjwa, rather 'God' to show that he was above the previous bonjwas. Flash is 100% not a bonjwa for that reason. Being a bonjwa is determined by what the Korean press think so or not; not statistics, not dominance, nothing except what journalists think.

You might want to edit Liquipedia to reflect this interpretation of the term then.

http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Bonjwa
"The difference between Flash and the other bonjwas is accentuated by the era of TaekBangLeeSsang that distances him from his predecessors."

If indeed we are to refer to "bonjwa" as being strictly confined to the pre-TBLS era (based on media nicknames), then we've removed what was a pretty decent metric with which to compare TBLS to the greats of the past. Sure, people can compare statistics and so forth, but no longer is there a word for "this guy is one of the best, most dominant players of all time" because it is restricted to a certain time in BW history.

I would like to think the word can evolve and be used in a more scientific context, but if not, so be it.

Apparently no one has explained to you what the "Legend of the Fall" is. Jangbi's last OSL win was "The Legend of the Fall", the legend of the fall is a legend that states that Protoss will win any tournaments during the fall because of...I believe it was Garimto or someone else very notable(plus all protoss) way back during the early days weren't doing so well then during the fall they all dominanted and protoss won another tournament.

*EDIT TAKEN FROM LIQUIPEDIA ABOUT LEGEND OF THE FALL, it explains it a bit better then I do*
+ Show Spoiler +
The Legend of the Fall is a belief that a Protoss player will win the OSL in the Fall (Autumn). This Legend started in SKY 2001 where Garimto defeated Boxer in the fall, stopping Boxer from winning three back to back OSLs. This curse was perpetuated the following fall in 2002 SKY OSL where Reach defeated Boxer once again in the Fall. It continued through Anytime's miraculous run in the So1 OSL and was repeated in the Incruit OSL by Stork, defeating Fantasy in the fall. Most recently, JangBi kept the Legend of the Fall alive by defeating Fantasy himself in his second consecutive OSL Final appearance during the 2011 Jin Air OSL.

Flash isn't a Bonjwa, the last Bonjwa was Savior(match fixing guy, before him was Iloveoov, before him was Nada and before him was Boxer there have only ever been 4 Bonjwas). Flash is instead given the "God" name to show that he is the only BW player to ever win EVERY SINGLE TOURNAMENT in a year.(He won MSL/OSL/his team carried by him of course =P won Shinhan Pro League)

You also must not know a ton about pro gamers and their win rates....if they are going 1:1 in a match up that isn't mediocore, thats actually really good lol.........You seem to think that because kespa players not winning in some recent tournament after having to practice 2 different games means that they aren't as good as you were told which is certainly not the case. Unlike the SC2 teams(well most, some of the more popular ones are getting to a point now) are already established, with sponsors, practice regimes, coaches, and places to live/eat. They don't have to worry about their team folding up shop and can instead focus 100% on SC2 when the time comes for them to stop juggling 2 games.

Also with all the animosity still about "SC2 killing BW" the ending sentence of the opening paragraph seems more "hostile" then it does you stating some random fact(which it isn't even a fact...if people like the game they will transition if they don't they'll still play Brood War, there is no Universal Law or some shit that states everyone has to transition).

Just some food fo thought, I feel like you should of probably interviewed people who have a way larger history knowledge base about BW before you went and wrote an article about BW. You seem to not really understand much....(BTW MC was a no body in BW, but he's a beast IN SC2....Same with Nestea...and same with MVP.....the best one of the 3 was MVP with some pro league wins over some notable people, but none of them had any invididual league succes, so the "Kespa Players" were already here).
Limited Edition, lets do some simple addition, $50 for a T-Shirt is just some ignorant bitch shit.

To be 100% technically correct regarding Flash and SC:BW.

Flash Is not:
Good.
God.
Bonjwa.
etc.
Allot of people are good.
"Gods" in games comes and goes.
So does Bonjwas

Flash is the best player of all time in the History of SC:BW. Calling him anything else would be a disgrace.

You need to do more research if you want to write about something like this. The first paragraphs have errors as other people pointed out and the rest is just stating results. If i wanted a list i would go to liquipedia. Did you watch the games? You took no risks writting this, no hard opinions.

As an SC2 person, who has no idea about BW and hasn't seen any WCS, I read the article and was nicely informed about which BW players to look out for, so I think it's a decent article. Dunno what all the arguing is about :S
