The Beauty of SC: Flashback of clan NoOb]

Starcraft has been a lot of things to a lot of people. For myself, and the community I grew up gaming in, it was all about fastest possible map and SCD.

Our clan was big. Despite the travesty of our clan name at one point in time we had a slew of bots, over 100 active members, and would often have 2 full chat channels packed with members. For the vast majority of those people NoOb] was just a brief stop on their Starcraft journey, but for our core leadership group it has evolved into great relationships and memories strong enough to bring us together almost a decade later. Through the power of facebook, and some old email addresses we found in our old MSN messenger accounts (do you guys remember when people used to use that?), a lot of us have recently connected with one another for the first time in half a decade or more - and can I say I am shocked at how far we've come.

History
The Clan NoOb] was formed from a combination of members from Clan NsO- and Thugz_. Silly Jews and Medieval were NsO- members at the time the clan was founded and Ownage and Zyklon were members of Thugz_. Warrior was originally D_C_Warrior and a friend of both clans. Gnial(Can joined soon after and had been a part of a couple clans before. Warrior has been the primary caretaker of the clan, keeping the bot active and the clan alive during times of inactivity. Without Warrior, the clan would probably not exist. Medieval was one of the more inexperienced members at the time the clan was formed. Now he may very well be the best and most experienced. Gnial(Can was the best player for a long period of time without a question. He has come back from a break of Starcraft and is quickly regaining his form. SillyJews was the youngest member at the time the clan was formed and was very good. He has come back as well from some inactivity and is playing at his highest level now. Nutted was a significant part of the clan and is not just one of the founding members but one of the true founders of the clan. He can play with any of us and is very versatile. Zyklon is currently inactive but was also a founder. His distaste with the previous clan allowed him to see what made a clan successful and has been a part of one of the longest standing clans on StartCraft. Ownage, myself, founded the clan with a few friends and made a promise to keep the clan free of many of the problems that brings clans down. We have been successful so far and will continue to be.

Recruitment
Recruitment is invite only. The best way to gain entry into the clan is to befriend the members and play with them as frequently as possible. One of the founding members or possibly active members will make a recommendation to the other members. After some discussion a invite may be handed out. We like to keep the number of members low and the quality high. We are running above our optimum number of members but we have had many quality additions recently. It would be difficult to receive a invite at this point in time.

Rankings
We do not have a classic ranking system. We have 6 members that may be considered leaders by other standards but are considered founding members. Everyone has an equal say in the goings on and it is really solely based on longevity in the clan. If a member has been with us for a nearly a year or more we are inclined to include them in every decision. A new recruit will most likely have less say in major decisions.

Clan Wars
We are currently in a clan war with [Ilusion] and [KaC]. We are accepting other clan wars at this time so if you are interested, post a discussion thread, post here, or contact one of the founding members. We perfer, at this time, to play other west clans. Down the road some we may branch into the other servers but for the time being, West clans are perferred.

Our reunion started with SC2. A small bunch of us had managed to connect on facebook at some time or other and, by sharing contacts, we managed to put together a group of 5 people to tackle the SC2 Beta. (Gnial, Warrior, Ownage, Nutted and Sillyjews) It was like old times; except now that we were older it meant that things were different. We had more money than before and more independence than when we were in grade 10 (probably grade 7 for Sillyjews). To start: Ownage won $10,000 in a poker tournament and used the proceeds to book a penthouse suite in Las Vegas and invite us all down.

What shocks me the most is how well the NoOb] members that we are still in touch with have done with themselves. I am now friends with a professional body builder, an MBA, a venture capitalist, two engineers, 2 international business students... the list goes on, and spans 5 countries: Canada, the United States, Mexico, Colombia and Chile.

And it is all thanks to Starcraft. Pretty freakin' cool right?

As an aside, he is an amazing guy and is currently in the race for a spot in the next big Olympia. He is in 2nd place out of 60 people right now, so if you feel like giving him a 'like' on facebook, it could make all the difference for him.

I have two main reasons for walking down this memory lane on TL:

1) If anyone used to be a part of the clan, and wants to get in touch, we have a facebook group that has been started recently that currently has 12 or 13 former members. Send me a PM if you were a member, or even if you just played with us a lot and want to get in touch.

2) Nostalgia, for the benefit of myself, my old clan-mates, and the TL community - many of whom would have grown up in a similar clan and can relate.
