Hi. Introduction
I am an undergraduate student from the US and i'm doing some work here in Hong Kong for the summer.
I play sc2 and ssbm and major in math, stats, econ and/or history. My favorite sc2 player is probably mvp. I read/watch copious amounts of manga/anime, excellent for incubating proofs and essay prompts...Currently i'm living inthe graduate dorms at HKU. Anyways, I don't really know anyone in Hong Kong and find it rather boring doing everything alone. I'll be in HK until August 25.
Stuff
I have a horrible sense of direction and was lost at Central for about 3 hours yesterday...
We could like go to aquariums(i heard there is an aquarium, is it good?)/bars(idk much about the indie scene here but there don't seem to be too many venues avail...)/randomplaces etc. I don't really care. We could also just play smash.
Anyways, if anyone's around, drop me an email at smallwhal@gmail.com. I'd prefer if you were around my age unless you're female, then i don't really care. Also, I prefer that you are not creepy
On a side note, this morning i was so bored i considered going to find a prostitue to just go to the aquarium with me. Then there is the problem where A. they wouldn't approach me because i'm female and B. if i dressed like a guy i'd look too young C. probably don't have enough money to hire a cute one, maybe go for middle age motherly one. but yeah, that idea went out the window.
Edit: also sorry i've been lurking in the forums for quite a while. too lazy to post until boredom was too much
Edit 2: this is possibly a bad idea, oh well

I'll be in Hong Kong by the end of the month. Will have plenty of time.
Went to Ocean Park during spring break, but didn't go to aquarium because others weren't interested.

usually white female are quite popular here! You should also try going out to different places in HK with your classmates in HKU, I do beleive they have no problem communicating with you! (well they managed to enter HKU already...)
And if you like manga/anime, you should have lots of friends there, they even have a student club for that

macau, lamma island, sai kung + some outlying islands from there which are a short boat ride. obviously you should check out the big buddah island as well but i forget which one that is. ocean park or disney land can be nice too.
there are some local places you can go to paint on a canvas, nice and relaxing.
science museum in tst is nice, so is the history museum. not too sure where aquarium is though.
ladies market is fun, so is temple street market.
theres an anime/game store place between mong kok and yau ma tei. on the east side of nathan road. cant the recall address. there's also a few anime action figure stores over in sham shui po around the golden dragon computer center. exit d, across the road and next right. should be along a market road but the figures are in the shops.
have fun, use smart phone geo locate thing if you get lost.

Go to Yuen Long and walk around.
|
I have some tours to go on this weekend and most Saturdays, I don't know if they last all day.
Is your phone sim-locked?
|
unlocked i just don't know how to use this weird sim card i have on it. i have an estonia number for some reason, and apparently they have a number i call to get to hk numbers, but it isn't working.... hmm... lol
|
You can get pre-paid sim cards pretty easily from phone shops/stalls around mall areas. But if you don't manage to, I do have a spare one that definitely works.

i see... i'll pick one up next time i leave the dorm.

Go to Causeway Bay (HK Island). Female paradise if your into fashion. Plenty of plazas to window shop or buy something you like. You will be walking alot here, Wan-chai is just next to Causeway Bay, these 2 suburbs are the busiest in the HK Island, soooooo many shops there... dunno how they survive.
In Sham Sui Po, along the (red?) rail line, there is HK Golden Computer centre there, plenty of cheap parts and just to shop around. There's also heaps of stalls on the streets there, just walk around and have a look, cheap n good random things to buy there.
Lady's Market (dunno the street name), and Argyle street has heaps of stalls, it's in that same area around Mong-kok. There's a huge plaza ontop of Mong-kok station, heaps of stores to walk around.
I think at 8pm nighttime-ish, there is some lights show that goes on for like 10-15 minutes, I think they still do it (I was there in Feb/March), it's in Tsim Sha Tsui, is on the coastline between the Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. Nathan Road has alot of jewellery stores that have some expensive diamond necklaces there, like... some were more expensive than my brother's apartment he bought.
There's some cable car in Admirality, that takes you to the top of some mountain, good sightseeing, you get a big viewpoint of Hong Kong, go on a clear day if possible.
In Tai-Po, where I lived, bike-riding is popular there, you can hire a bike for a day and ride along the coast, pretty good view/experience/change-of-shit I was doing.
Prepaid SIM, you can pick one up at any phone shop you see, recharge at that mini-counter/stand you see in each one. Load up like $50-100HKD at a time, depending on how many international calls you make. Some have 3G available (PCCW?)

if im still going to hk for vacation during early august and if ur still bored as hell by then maybe we can meet up =P
|
organize a barcraft. i'll come if someone can get one going.
|
While you're waiting for someone to hang out with you, go check out some arcades. I know that's what I did. ( 100 HKD got me like 5-6 hours of play not even kidding. ) There's one in Causewaybay World trade center, 5th floor i think, it's the namco wonderpark? And one in Telford Plaza 2 (get off kowloon bay, the plazas are attached to the MTR station), 6th floor i think called Virtual Zone ( this one is my favorite). Oh, and you can get prepaid sim cards at any 7-11 or circle k.
