Legos seems like a good thing to start a blog about as anything and is probably a good change from all the girl/life musing generally found in this section. Anyway, I got back into Legos after 10 years with this year's new Lord of the Rings Sets releases. Most of them seem like a cooler rehash of the old Kingdom stuff. I should say by way of disclaimer that I'm not so much attracted to the various themes but more to cool/clever models. So for example Helms Deep might as well be a really cool generic castle set to me:
... though the Gimli figure makes me want it a lot cuz dwarfs rule.
However something awesome did catch my eye from this theme :D
Yeah, Shelob, giant Lego Spider. Giant. Lego. Spider.
She was a lot of fun to build especially because she didn't have a lot of technic parts for the legs, and the moveable parts blended into the rest of the body really well. It was surprisingly solid and cleaver compared to the old 90's sets I was used to (they were basically just stacks of blocks).
At any rate, after spending probably way to much on Legos and running out of cool sets, I tried my first custom model using the pieces of the surprisingly cheap Propeller Adventures set (19.99):
... and making a Vulture!
EDIT: Bleh, my camera sucks so I just rebuilt it in Lego Digital Designer.
What do you guys think?
EDIT: Fixed the pictures, camera still sucks:

oh mah god ASM with a blog??? :O...
Fantasy would approve. but he just needs you to build about 1000000 more of those xD
EDIT: You should build 3 spider mines

I wish I had more random parts but I don't want to take my space shuttle apart :<

Logged in just so I could 5 star this. Oh legos, such a nastalgia bomb.

This is damn awesome.
This makes me want to go home and play BW and fail horribly while trying to emulate Fantasy's mech control. lol

This makes me want to go out and buy that set so I can make my own vulture.

I always wanted legos as a kid.. instead I was stuck with like 10 buckets of tinker toys. I think I got one small box of generic no-brand legos once and it got mixed into the tinker toys.. Now when I'm shopping for the nieces and nephews I always look at the legos.. man some of those have gotten sophisticated.
Great work man

I have an obession with Legos, but buying fancy sets; especially those architecture ones put a huge dent in my pocket. Now I just stick to using the Digital Designer even though a more physical direct approach would be more gratifiying.

Yeah, I want to make spider mines but don't have enough hinges. I was thinking about picking up the dune hopper set
So I can make it a purely white/red vulture with 2 grey engines, actual top exhaust and a spider mine. I've found that it takes about ~$40 to make a good version of something size of the vulture I made. I guess I could convert it to BW vulture but I kinda like the front of the SCII vulture more.
Also need to make a minifig that looks like fantasy. The LDD picture I have in the OP is an approximation of the glasses wearing SKT1 player in the new red uniform ( could make stickers for the logo).
I was also going to build a dragoon out of the cool cruiser but there just aren't enough hinges or angle pieces to pull it off. I would need to buy another cool cruiser to do it.
I need a pile of hinges though I was going to buy 2 cranes for a motorized siege tank so I could just technic frame it and try and stick enough stuff on it to hide it.
I've been really tempted by getting a architecture set. Toss up between Falling Water and Minecraft.
