There was an incident that happened last week which caused a good friend of mine to lose a lot of money. Now he is putting all the blame on someone who he met for the first time that night, and he wants this kid to pay him all the money that he lost. I was giving my friend my honest opinion over the phone, telling him that it's unfair to be directing all the blame onto this one person, when he got totally pissed at me and hung up the phone cursing me off. I can understand that he's upset about losing what was basically the only money he had, but I just think making the other kid pay back everything (something like $250) is too much.
Here is basically what happened:
My good friend (let's call him John) was going to this party with three other friends which was being held in a warehouse one night. He invited me to join them. That same evening I had met a kid (let's call him Dudley) for the first time. Even though I later found out that Dudley is actually a moron (the reason why I say this has nothing to do with the night in question), he honestly seemed like a decent guy at the time, and I usually give people the benefit of the doubt. So I invited Dudley to come with me to the party.
I drove with Dudley about 40 minutes to where my friends were hanging out, picked them all up, then headed to the party. When we arrived, my four friends (John included) went inside the venue while Dudley and I stayed in the car with the engine off to pregame (my friends had been drinking beforehand, which is why they left immediately). Dudley had brought a bottle of vodka and a box of orange juice. We drank maybe five or six shots each, and while drinking I remember Dudley telling me that he hadn't drank in a year and a half. We then headed to the venue to join my friends. While walking there, Dudley's condition seemed fine to me. Maybe he seemed a little bit drunk, but he was walking straight and talking clearly. I wasn't worried about anything at the time.
I should mention at this point that two or three of my friends were carrying something like $300 worth of drugs in total, which they were planning to sell but did not attempt to sell at this party. After about an hour inside the venue, the alcohol was hitting Dudley hard. He fell out of his chair and banged his head on the floor. My friends who were sitting near him helped him up and tried to get him some water. When the bouncers saw what was going on and noticed how messed up Dudley was, they made me walk out with Dudley to the car while they searched my friends, confiscating almost all of the drugs that they had on them. My friends later told me that the bouncers were laughing while finding their drugs and making jokes about how they would be getting high off them. My friends were then kicked out. Fortunately no police were involved. We then drove home with Dudley occasionally puking on himself in the passenger's seat of the car.
Now my friend John is totally pissed off and wants Dudley to pay him all the money that the lost drugs were worth.
Poll: Who do you think is most at fault?John & co. They should realize the risks of carrying drugs inside a place that has security. (40) 66% Me. I was the one who invited Dudley. I should have looked after him inside the venue. (10) 16% No one. Shit like this just happens sometimes, and you can't really blame anyone for it. (6) 10% Dudley. The idiot should have realized his drinking limit and left when he noticed he was messed up. (5) 8% 61 total votes Your vote: Who do you think is most at fault? (Vote): Dudley. The idiot should have realized his drinking limit and left when he noticed he was messed up. (Vote): Me. I was the one who invited Dudley. I should have looked after him inside the venue. So he let some guys in tight shirts perform an illegal search and depending on your point of view be nice enough to not tell the cops or steal his drugs. So it must be Dudley since he had a good time.
|
I don't even walk around with a lot of cash because if someone ever took it or I lost it for any reason, I would only blame myself. Drugs is even worse.
Honestly, I would hang out with Dudley over John, just based on this story. Puking because you couldn't control your alcohol is normal. Carrying around illegal drugs and not expecting anything to ever happen is just stupid.
If I were you, I would call up John, curse him out in return, and hang up on him for being such a dumbass. Imagine what would've happened if you got pulled over with all those drugs.

If john is the kind of guy that thinks investing his last 250 dollar in drugs thinking he'll make a profit, I think he's (probably not consciously because he doesn't sound too bright) risking his last 250 dollars, especially if he's thinking to make a profit of them in a place where the security will take them away from you

So they were carrying 300$ of drugs and were getting wasted at the same time.
What kind of serious drug dealer would do this? Are you guys in high school or something? The blame is on them, obviously.

when you are going to sell drugs, shouldn't you have some kind of clear head? try to do it drunk? that'll get you arrested and stuff. totally john's fault.

" they made me walk out with Dudley to the car while they searched my friends, confiscating almost all of the drugs that they had on them. "
How did they bouncers search for your friends? they remember who your friends are? and how did the bouncers even get the drugs from your friends? Did they have it out or something?
Either way its your friends fault. How is it dudley faults? Dudley got drunk and kick out... How does that even relate to John? Why didn't you just leave with dudley? and come back for the others? Heck if your friends are going to blame Dudley, they might as well blame you for the whole situation because you're the one who brought him. Dumbass drug dealers need to take responsibility for themselves and need to stop blaming others when they get busted.

Honestly, your friend should be happy police didn't get involved, not sure what type of drugs he had, but he could of ended up in jail.. only losing $250 worth of drugs.. he got off easy IMO, he should be happy the situation didn't turn out worse..

I'm not sure the bouncers could legally search your friends, seems kind of fucked up. That being said, for those who haven't sold drugs, doing it fucked up is totally normal, real life is not a movie where most dealers don't use their stuff. The kind of dealer pissed about losing $250 like that sounds like just a user trying to cover his own addictions. Anyone who made real money would just thank God the cops didn't get involved and call it a wash.
This John kid is an ass and you should really tell him to let it go, Dudley got drunk, its not like he told the bouncers your friends had drugs or anything.

Sigh, kids... yeah I would be upset if I lost $250, but he'll come to learn that it's really no big deal. Tell him to grow the fuck up.
Edit: Also tell him he's an idiot.

Yeah, random potheads or high school kids do that kind of stuff. But serious drug dealers don't. You're either working or you're having fun. If you're doing both then you're either a moron or a middle-class kid looking for a thrill - wait, it's the same thing.
So that John guy, is he poor? If he is, then he shouldn't fuck around with his money like that, especially if it's his business. If he isn't, then 150$ isn't that big of a deal. Either way he shouldn't try to imitate the big kids.

John chose to invest his money in something stupid and risky.
John proceeds to lose his money BECAUSE of what he invested in.
John is clearly at fault in this situation. Doesn't matter that Dudley threw up and got John's drugs confiscated. He shouldn't have had them on him in the first place.
Imo John sounds like a jerk for not realizing his own mistake and blaming Dudley. Dudley sounds like an idiot for drinking so much without knowing his limit and getting everyone thrown out of the party.
|
Your friend John is an idiot for walking around with $250 worth of drugs ANYWHERE. You never carry around that much unless you're meeting actual buyers. He's also a complete fucking moron for investing his "last" $250 into drugs. You guys also should not have let the bouncers search you. There's absolutely no way for them to do that. They'd have to have called police, then the police would have had to either have established a probable cause that would hold up in court, or have gotten your permission. This is assuming you live in the US.
That said, I understand that he's angry. Give him a bit longer to calm down, and probably don't ever let him and Dudley ever hang out again.

How retarded are your friends? 1) you walk into a place which is guarded where there is a chance of getting searched. 2) You are carrying illegal gods while going into this place. 3) you are carrying illegal gods even though you are not planning on actually selling them. 4) You start to drink, which could end up getting you drunk and a possibility of ending up in the drunk tank which equals the police. Again, what is wrong with your friends? You really okay with hanging out with them, I mean they are just stupid enough to have you killed one day.
|
LOL john is a retard.
TL:DR: Get better friends, as Drug Dealers aren't good friend material.
|
Dudley should have taken better care of himself. Drug dealing is a no-no.
But having drugs on you in a club or something? Who gives a shit (but 300$ is an aweful lot for not selling)...
|
They had drugs on them. That's all I need to know. Really, you have no one to blame but yourself, if you get caught doing something illegal and have to face consequences.
And get better friends. Seriously, no friends are better friends than drug dealers. The latter just cause trouble and nothing more.
|
It's pretty irrational to blame Dudley for this. It's pure logic:
a) Dudley gets drunk --> b) Security is called --> c) You are searched by security.
Imagine if John was driving a car and he was speeding, and Dudley was in the car too. Imagine if Dudley farted and the smell distracted John and he crashed, writing his car off. The crash isn't Dudley's fault, it was John's for speeding in the first place. People who drive to the speed limit don't crash when someone farts.
If you deal drugs, you deserve whatever punishment comes your way, end of story.

if they arent selling, they shouldnt be carrying, your friends are dumber than dudley

Never knew I could attain so much insight into drug dealing from TL O.O
