My thoughts going into the this tourney are both excitement and worry. It's been pretty clear over the past few weeks that these pros, while mechanically impressive, are not the best at this game yet. So while this tournament is interesting; it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the games themselves don't turn out to be impressive.

Frankly, I think most everyone is aware of this in the community at this point. It's been discussed on pretty much every SC2 talk show by now. There's not much to belaboring that point. So given all that. I wonder about Kespa's choice to have this tourney. They have to be aware that they are not showing their players off at their best. Perhaps they know something the rest of us don't. But I wonder if hyping these games up as much as they are at MLG might hurt the players' image in the long run.

In any case, I'll be updating this later based off of what I see tonight. As we speak I'm watching the Flash v Stork game. They haven't shown a whole ton yet, but it's certainly not bad play. If I eat my words, then I'll be happier for it.

Edit: Ok, I think I know why Kespa went with this. These games are good enough to be entertaining for sure. (At least this one was, you never know what's gonna happen.) Kespa probably wanted to show off their improvement to the foreigner crowd if nothing else. Can't wait to see the other games tomorrow. Sleep time for me.

Its more about exposing die-hard BW fans to the future of their favorite players.
No the play wont be super amazing but that will come in time. The point isn't to show the players as the best in the world at SC2.

Synwave, yeah I think I'm starting to see that myself. Ah well, guess it's best to just sit back and enjoy what's there.

Well for less than 2 months practice, they are amazingly good and because they are so good at Brood War they will only improve furthur. How good they get compared to current SC2 pros remains to be seen but I reckon after a year or two they'll start to do really well. The main point is it opens up the whole Brood War audience in Korea to SC2 now.

Doesn't Proleague (and soon OSL) already do that enough? Also, how many Korean BW fans will actually watch MLG?

Unless you're talking foreign BW fans, but KeSPA has rarely bothered with those, so why start now when they're virtually extinct and the foreign SC2 fan audience is way larger? If you're trying to introduce foreign SC2 fans to BW pros, this might work but as noted it also has problems since the game quality is lower than what they're used to.

I don't really know why they had the tournament, to be honest. My best guess is to just get the BWs some experience at a foriegn tournament? Perhaps showing them the possibilities of having adoring fans worldwide to discourage them from retiring or something? But they've been to like Blizzcons and WCGs and stuff before, so I don't really know. Improving relations with MLG for some reason -- not sure why they'd need/want that, but it's possible they do?

Maybe they just did it for the lulz.

I think it was the other way around: expose SC2 fans to who the BW pros were, where they are coming from, and what they are bringing to the table once they make the switch *cough* elephant *cough*
