BW has been a huge part of my life since 2005, and yes, it feels kind of strange at the moment. Now I'm married and I have a job so I don't have that much time to play and I can't improve any more. I am a huge fan of the Korean pro-scene (I flew to Korea just to watch the last PL Grand Finals), and now that it's all over, I feel less and less urge to play.

It's clearly not because I'm bored of the game, but just thinking that there won't be new awesome KeSPA maps, no friends to chat with between the games, no progamer to emulate, ... I don't know, I guess I feel just like the same as you...

Sorry for not giving any advice

¿Has intentado jugar SC2? Yo lo empecé a jugar hace dos o tres días (dejé de jugar Broodwar), y tengo que admitir que no es malo para nada. ¡Deberías probarlo!

Honestly, if you're platinum in SC2 it's because you don't play at all... because platinum is pretty much the base level of SC2 even for D- users. Anyhow, less of that and more onto the point of the post, if you feel there is no point in pursuing BW, then think about the users who create stuff for you to do in BW and how desperately they try to answer the same question. Bottom line is, they don't. If you ask yourself why should I be motivated to do this? Then you'll never be satisfied with anything you do. Brood War is not dead to me, Brood War will be dead to me at some point, but not because people cease to play it, but because I will cease to play it. I understand your strong attachment to your team and helping people out, "eOn the coach" is a perfect example of this and probably why you're struggling, if your team is demotivated, pick up some rookie players and help them help you or simply attempt to find value in training yourself rather than others. Don't consider yourself to be fighting for anything, there's no enemy, there's no fight. We play BW for fun, we're not "fighting" anything.

There are many different alternatives to try out obviously, however, telling yourself you are demotivated but still attached is probably the worse thing you can do to yourself. You're an important member of the community evidently, holding a leadership position of a top team, however, I encourage you to either stop thinking about lack of motivation and/or distancing yourself from the game itself and stop thinking about it, because as much as I would like to convince you to stay in the Brood War scene, I have to consider you to be a human being, thus I suggest what is best for you. It's not healthy for anyone to remain torn over any two things. I mean, this message may seem silly to some people because "love for BW + lack of motivation for BW", it seems so trivial, but it's not. It really isn't just based on the sheer amount of time that was put into it.

I got into BW kinda late, so I don't really have this attachment to Korean scene. I don't feel the way you felt yet but I feel like I'll feel the way you felt sooner or later because BW is going to fade away. My life consist of BW,Work,School and other. So..I hope I don't feel the way you felt soon.. BW is still very fun to me. I think it's part of life. Nothing last forever. You are moving on. I felt like that's how I felt when I saw my very good high school friends when we decide to hang out during university breaks. It's like everyone had change except me. Everyone has change and move on for the better but I'm still at the same state. It's depressing when I think about it so I just stay happy and think positive things. I do wished I had change along with them, but I felt that I wouldn't be who I am if I change but I would rather change because the flow of time rewards those who can adapt. I can't and remain the same! SAD BUT IM HAPPY BECAUSE THAT'S WHO I AM.

I feel like the entire foreign BW-community has been in some sort of collective depression for the last 1-2 years. I think that if people would focus more on just enjoying this beautiful game and less on talking about it "dying", we'd be so much better off.

Honestly, people have been saying that BW is dying for years now, and while I agree that losing the korean scene is a heavy blow, it is by no means the end of BW -- even though a lot people will try to tell you otherwise.
The foreign scene has a surprisingly (to me anyway) deep talent pool, ICCUP and Fish are still up, there are still thousands of active players, and people picking up BW for the first time in their lives.
There's no point in gloating about stuff neither of us can change, so focus on the constant instead, aka Brood War. The game is just as good, if not better, than it was a year ago.

In short: whatever happens happens, but BW will still be as exciting and fun, regardless of whatever happens around the globe

There's always something else. Your heart has endless space for love, put BW in there and continue to fill it with something else. Believe me, there will be something else; there's always something else!

You know. This feeling you have sucks.
But you know what sucks more? Never to have experienced the glory of BW. <-- me

Honestly, same thing for me too. The thought of no new BW osl,pl and new maps bring tears to my eyes. I grew with them but thinking of losing all of those is horrific for me :/ I tried watching and playing SC2 but those never seemed to bring same level of excitement as BW. You're not the only one feeling this.

I don't play bw or sc2 any more but I will always try to tune in for bw streams if there is one online when I get back from college.

Edit : For the lack of motivation it is an issue for me too that is because for me proleague broodwar was what hype me to play the game to give it a go second time even though it's hard .Since having some one to model after and emulate their play style is always some thing good to use as reference . I find comfort that I can see my self being a wannabe stork, turtle flash, Kwanro a little in me when I pull off tactics that shouldn't have work in this current age .

In the end I think it's affecting all of us bw fans who have been around and are here for proleague bw and that is I am hoping that an amateur scene could replace the now defunct bw scene and bw will still be kicking for years to come .

Yea it kind of sucks that the dream is finally ending, for good.

Kind of decent timing for me at least since i just started working full time. It's such a shame, but oh well.

I passed this phase like 2 years ago. The game is too hard and im too old + there is noone to play with on iccup. I never lost the motivation to watch pro BW but lately I lost it with the start of the new Proleague. The games are too bad for me to watch .... nowadays i never watch it live and just check a game thats decent on VODs.

I know BW was the game of my life but we gotta move on. Nothing last forever and just remember the good times you had till now and try to find another game to enjoy. For myself I watch more Dota 2 than BW lately and I'm enjoying it alot even tho I havent played Dota 2 at all and the last time I played Dota was 5 years ago.

Now that the proscene is going to disappear, it becomes realistic to become the best in the world ! Gogogo 1600 on Fish !
I'll watch foreign event as long as there are some. And as a foreign player, what really was the influence of korean progamer on the pleasure of playing the game ? As long as there are players to play the game, I don't see why you should quit. Of course if everybody does the same as you, it will be harder =)
Well all in all, there's one reason to keep playing : the game is still good.

Hey you may not be Sziky (and we wouldn't have a scene with Sziky only), but I'm pretty sure your team will be happy to have your for GC. And I, and quite a few other I think, will be happy to watch your games if they are good^^ If you still like to play the game, that's all that matters.

Play casually for a bit or take a break, it's ok. People will always come back for BW, it is not on your shoulders to play every waking moment.

If you want, you can just mix it up. Do some new strategies you never got good at and figure them out. Or invent some fun cheeses. BW is a game that is great because you can both have fun taking it seriously, but you can also have fun playing it very casually. If people played more UMS on iCCup, it would probably actually really help people who are generally feeling burnt out on 1v1 and the pressure that can come with competition.

It is also important to play with people who have a positive attitude. Honestly, even when I don't play for a week or so, I always find myself coming back and excited to try some new strategies, esp. with friends. It is just a matter of not thinking too much about it. It is a hobby for us foreigners, after all. Think of it like playing Chess or anything else. It doesn't necessarily advance your life that much, but intellectual hobbies are always very good things to have.

glgl hf. If not BW, what else? Don't over think your hobbies, you have to do something with your time.
