This blog is far less interesting than the title suggests, so by no means feel obliged to read on :D
For those of you who do, one of my good friend's birthday is coming up, and his girlfriend and I are trying to work out what to get him. He's sort of nerdy (plays a lot of games etc), but he's also quite sporty. The problem is, I'm getting him a headset which is basically the last thing he needs for his PC, and his girlfriend is left with no ideas because he doesn't need / want anything, and isn't helping, just says he wants nothing.
So TL, if you could have anything with a limit of say $300, what would you get?

Umm this is pretty hard not knowing the guy.
Assuming nothing else for his PC, I'd say either a pretty decent bike (is he into that?) or a decent suit. You can get a decent suit for like $200 and then get it altered for less than $100, but that won't be such a big surprised.
That or nice dress shoes.

He's a bogan australian, but he goes to uni, likes his vidya, plays footy all the time, all round top bloke.

This! I highly recommend a bottle of Glenmoragnie Nectar D'Or, some of the best damn scotch you can get for $80 and maybe a new game for the night or something. If he isn't much of a scotch appreciator, maybe get him a mechanical keyboard.
And learn to title things better, you got my hopes up.

A nice watch. Though tbh the price range is a bit awkward for watches. You could get him a "cheap" one for about $100, but imo its not worth buying watches for around $200-500. Go higher and get a really nice one for about $1000. Or keep it around $100 and get a simple quartz one.

His girlfriend should take him on an outdoor adventure. Rafting, bungee jumping (too dangerous?), zip lining, etc.

Bogan = that sounds aussie, don't know that one
vidya = that's an internet one, it means video games
footy = this I do use, it means football. Could mean association football, he might mean Australian rules football. I always call association football "footie"

i think you should either a) get him a huge awkward embarrassing heart-shaped poster that he wouldn't ever want to hang on his wall, think hello kitty style but maybe a bit personalized, and force him to hang it so he will tell you some ideas next year rather than getting another one of those, or b) listen to him and don't get him anything except a nice day and maybe some chocolates he likes or something, something that is consumable within a short time frame and that you know he will eat..

the problem is he loves everything and would most likely put a giant poster like that out in the open for everyone to see
