Hey all, I'm going to be doing a write-up/summary type gig for the XSL, mainly following my teammate and I. I don't know if there is a better place to do it, but I figured blogs would be a decent starting point. Thank you for reading through this and any of my future updates. If you feel something in my write-ups needs to be critiqued, please do so.
What is XSL?
+ Show Spoiler +
Short for eXe-GSL. Clan eXe is running an in-clan tournament that is modeled after the GSL. Code S XSL conists of Diamond-Masters players, while Code A is filled with Bronze-Platinum.
Code A? No Code S?
+ Show Spoiler +
Code S is a fairly bigger than Code A and I'm not as familiar with the higher level teams and their players. I will be giving a short recap of Code A results along with some battlereports of my teammate and/or I. If we get knocked out, I will most likely give a special following to the people who knocked us out. That method will keep on going 'till we get to the finals.
I appreciate any advice/critique for recaps and battlereports. Now on to the good stuff!
Code A is broken up into 4 groups of 4 players each. Two players have a bye into the next round.

My thoughts this week:
+ Show Spoiler +
-There's only 3 terrans that signed up?? Dang son... I know there's several terrans in my team but apparently they didn't sign up. :O
-Mazark and I both start out by facing an opponent a league below, but they are both volatile mirrors. It will be interesting to see how that pans out.
Recaps* NEW!

Group A: Mazark vs eXeSpell [ZvZ] Match 1
+ Show Spoiler +
Game 1:
Both players went for an almost identical FE opening, but Mazark's early execution was tighter, and that allowed his economy to get better. Mazark sent his lings and and handful of banelings to Spell's natural. This engagement almost reset the entire army supply, save for a handful of roaches for Spell.
Mazark had his economy well set up after this and hit a roach timing just as his opponenet was teching to hydralisks. Mazark killed a good chunk of Spell's army and his natural. The roach production couldn't be countered at this point and Spell punched gg.
Game 2:
Game 2 was quite the ride! Mazark went for a speedling FE again, while Spell opened up very defensively with roaches before expanding. Spell never moved from his natural but he tried to catch his opponent off guard with mutalisks. Unfortunately, he build his spire right by one of Mazark's overlords.
Mazark was pretty prepared at home, but his roach army was still moving about on the map and he lost any advantage his ground army had.
Spell took the opportunity to get a 3rd up while keeping Mazark contained on two bases. Spell traded his army with Mazark but was able to reproduce an army very quickly as Mazark made a desperation push on the 3rd but was swatted away fairly easy. GG called by Mazark!
Game 3:
This was just an awesome game to watch. Both players went with a speedling FE into banelings. The very early game was a mess, with both players killing some workers and trading blows, but Mazark made a key trade by killing a queen. This hampered Spell's production a little bit and an ensuing battle put him very far behind.
BANELINGS BATTLES! <3 14 lings gone in the blink of an eye! Spell's economy and army were always being harassed constantly after this point and he just couldn't trade effeciently. Mazark eventually just overwhelmed him with production. GGs by both players.
Bonus Picture:
No Zerglings were harmed in their travels.None. o.O
Mazark 2-1

Group A: Mazark vs Sabotage [ZvT] Winners Match 1
+ Show Spoiler +
Game 1:
Both players opened up very standard with fast expansions. Mazark made a baneling nest and attempted to baneling bust Sabotage's front, but the defense was good and a couple banelings died before detonating, and Maz only managed to kill one barracks while losing a lot of units.
Sabotage tried multi pronged drops they were deflected pretty easily by mass ling. Mazark transitioned into a ling/infestor army while Sabatoge was sticking with marines and heavy drop play.On Sabatoge's second round of heavy dropping, he took out Mazark's 4th expansion but Mazark deflected the drop that went into the main.
The big story however, was the massive ling counter attack that just Sabotage wasn't ready for. The counter attack cripple the terran hero to a crushing degree, with only a banshee at home to defend. All the marines popping out one by one were slaughtered.
Once Mazark sniffed out the planetary, he sent an army of infestors to spam a ton of infested terrans, which in turn, forced Sabatoge to call GG.
Game 2:
Mazark opted for another FE opening this game but Sab brought the heat with 2-rax aggression to start. It actually didn't amount to anything though, as zerglings were out quickly enough to deal with the SCV before the marines could get there to help.
Another attempt at baneling bust? Money scan.
Mazark stuck with ling/infestor again and so I think I made the wrong read on that last picture.
Sabotage did a great job baiting zerglings down the ramp where a small marine force was. While that was going on, he had a 16 marine drop in the natural. He killed a queen, forced the drones to lose a good bit of mining time, but when his drop was finally dealt with, he'd only killed 2 workers with it.
Sabotage tried dropping several more times, and had one successful drop, but he just wasn't cost effecient enough against Mazark's ling/infestor/mutalisk army. Mazark finally wore Sab's economy down, and he blew up a couple supply depots at the natural and the lings flooded in.
Sabatoge stabalized and minimized the damage done but he couldn't muster up a serious army at this point because his mineral income was shrinking. Mazark denied the 4th base and that solidified the game.
The terran hero tried to muster up a couple more drops and harass forces, but at this point in the game, he just couldn't do anything. Both players showed manner at the end and with the win, Mazark won his group. :D
