hey I'm a sophomore majoring in computer science here in the states. I think I have a pretty good idea of what I plan to do in the future around my area (SQL/Essbase), but since I was originally born in sk (moved here when I was about 7--21 now), I'm constantly wondering what it would be like to work there.
The companies that I can think of at the top of my head are samsung and lg (obviously), but I've heard that you definitely do not want to go near them. Bad workspace, management, etc. Well, I guess that's true for any company in sk, but I don't want to make generalizations. Please share your experience or stories if you have any, I'm just more curious than serious about working there.

I can't think of a reason to leave the united states considering it's the place to be for a computer science major right now.

Out of curiosity why do you wish to go back to Korea? Is it a cultural thing to return to your homeland or is it an entrepreneurial thing where you wish to expand your horizons and get a better future for yourself?

I don't know if you'll have much luck finding people who work in big companies in SK here on TL. :o

You could always go back and teach a year if you want (and as your of Korean decent...you can take a sabatical and teach for a year with TalK) ...but I would not suggest doing any kind of CS work in Korea....you will probably hate it!

I think I can provide some insight because I have lived abroad since I was 4.. moved around a lot but ultimately moved back and currently working in Korea.
My advice: Don't do it.
Moving to Korea for a year or so to teach English and enjoy the nightlife is one thing, coming to work is a whole different story. I wouldn't call the environment "bad" (from a western perspective I guess it would be) it's just Korea.

Having worked for Samsung
Don't do it unless you really hate yourself and have a reason to be in SK other than hey I'm in Korea

Whats so bad about working for Samsung? Just out of curiosity

How good are you with Essbase ? Multidimensional databases are still somehow a niche and can get you great jobs in any country in the world. Do you have any knowledge in finance/accounting ? If you don't and only know databases you'll likely end up as a DBA, not very exciting.
