Let me see how the first day goes and I might see if I can stream. Neither one of us has a webcam and I'm not sure if she would want everyone looking at her.
I do know it will be a test of my patience and ability to speak calmly and clearly to her while under stress. If I can do that and the stream doesn't lag us while playing........

Neither one of us played either Diablo game.
Most of our recent gaming experience is MMO's. My father played the MMO"s too before he passed in early 2008.
My parents were always the "cool" parents even if I didn't always understand how my friends thought MY parents were the "cool" parents.

I can't even talk about video games with my mom before she rolls her eyes, much less get her to play one! That's cool...have fun!

Well it is Noon eastern US time on Saturday. That means less than 70 hours til we start playing D3.
I am pretty bored as all I want to do is play D3 and obviously I can't do that. Also, I'm trying to not spoil any big details and that makes it hard to surf the net.
I do have Mom's barb and my DH build figured out up to level 19. I think I will plan it on out up to level 30 as if we finish Normal Tuesday we should be around level 30.
The reason I only went to level 19 is that is when you have all 6 abilities available.
I'm going with simple builds and I might even change what I have planned so far.
So I'm bored and thinking about builds that map out from 1-19 and 1-30.
I plan to post at least once a day from here on......

My dad will be playing, and he's only a few years younger than your mom. To be fair though, he made it through nightmare in D2, and raided a bit in WoW. He still isn't amazing, though...

Of course I bought D3 for her and I'm taking her out for lunch Monday.......
Still can't wait til early Tuesday to get started......

Since we are aiming to start at 7AM Tuesday, we are only 21 hours away.......
The dog goes to the groomer today and I'm buying Mom lunch for Mother's Day so that will take up 2-3 hours. Will also be picking up last minute supplies for the 12 hours we will be playing. Mom will take a small break around 1PM when her 83 year old mom calls(she calls EVERY day).
When that call comes, I will be switching to a solo character who will be decked out with 100% MF or as high of a MF as I can have after 4 hours of playing.
Well I have to have a bite to eat and grab a shower as we leave in 3 hours to take the dog to the groomer.......
I think the first post 2moro will be at 1PM or whenever my grandma calls mom..... It will give a brief update of how far we've made it. We are not rushing by any stretch. If we see a stump or barrel, it will be broken........

We got started around 6:30 AM. We are progressing very slowly mostly due to looting every damn thing that drops. I would highly suggest that after level 4 you stop looting gray/white items unless it is a health pot.
Finally got mom to understand that it wasn't worth the 2g or 3g to have our inventory fill up and require a trip back to town. So new plan of action will mean much more killing time.
We are both level 12 closing in on level 13. I know it's low for about 6 hours of play. We have to take a mini break whenever the dog has to go out and we had a phone call from her sister that took 20 minutes up. Grandma is on the phone now and that's why I'm typing this up.
We are going to grab a bite of lunch before going back in(assuming we can log back in). I had planned to play my MF barb solo while she talks to grandma, but I can't get him logged in.
Anyways, I hope everyone is enjoying the game as much as we are.

The 2 hour plus downtime has us wrapping up for the day.
We did complete Act I Normal and advanced into Caldeum. Level 15 for each of us. We did speed up with not looting gray/white items.
We've had a few deaths, but nothing major and nothing caused directly by playing with a 66 year old.......
I'm going to log into my Level 1 Magic Find geared Barb and see if I can't get some cheap blues to Salvage so I can start selling all the junk blues.
I'm happy that people are enjoying the blog.....
We should start Wednesday around 8AM or so......... wish us well

It's the end of day 2 and we are both tired and eye weary. Not sure how the guys doing 16 hours or more a day have done it.
I'm almost level 24 with my DH and mom is almost level 23 with her Barb. I have more +xp gear than she does. Also, if you have to be alive to get xp, I've not always been able to rez her for some fights where she does die.
The pleasant surprise is it hasn't been a death-fest at all. Also, I have died more than I would have liked.
We are on the second half of part 8 of ACT 2. That is the last part of ACT 2, so 2moro will see us move into ACT 3 and hopefully get close to level 28. Seems like we are higher level than we should be, but we have explored quite a bit and hit some nice random events.
I will post again 2moro night as it seems easier to post after we are done playing as we are excited to get back in the game in the morning.

We didn't put in as much time today. We did finish ACT 2 and move into ACT 3. We are on Part 4.
Both of us have made level 27 and we seem to have upgraded our gear quite a bit.
The Jeweler is to the point we need to find pages to level him, the Blacksmith is Level 4.
I have my MF barb up to level 10 and mom has a level 7 wizard. We are playing these solo when the other is busy and we can't co-op.
Having a blast and plan to keep doing so......

How do you take a screenshot and where does the game save them?
We finished up ACT 3 and moved into ACT 4 and actually finished ACT 4 rather quickly. I actually fell during the final battle with the boss at about 20% and mom finished him off.
We are both level 31 and will start Nightmare difficulty first thing 2moro.

We started Nightmare Difficulty today at a very deep level 31.
We don't move fast through things and to be honest NM started out pretty boring. Loot was BAD, killing stuff was EASY. It wasn't until we hit some rare packs/champ packs(whatever they called) that we took some deaths. Still wasn't that bad. The toughest was a pack of chargers which give my DH fits if I'm not on top of my game. These were in the compound where you try to return the spear(I think) that Karyna had stole.
Nonetheless, we made it past thing and have moved into Leoric's manor courtyard possibly a tad further. I'm kinda beat right now and a little brain fuzzy. Seems like we are getting close to finishing ACT 1, but my memory is crap so I'm not sure.
Logged super deep level 35. Should ding 36 early 2moro.
I had guessed that each ACT would take 2 full days if not 3 in NM. We should be into ACT 2 a decent amount when 2moro ends and that will only be day 2 of NM.

We are indeed into ACT 2 NM and at level 39. Not having much trouble at all. Some deaths here and there. I believe only 1 wipe, definitely no more than 2 not counting fighting The Butcher.
The Butcher was 2 wipes and we got him on the 3rd try. The hardest thing for mom to catch is floor effects and fighting The Butcher is all about floor effects. If you can notice the square start to glow, you know it's going to burn very soon and you move off that square. As long as I can see her square and tell her to move we are fine. If I'm having to move off my square and get onto a clear square..... Well that can lead to her poofing and then it's can I move around and get her rez b4 he finishes me. I got interrupted twice during rez if I remember correctly on one wipe.
Gear in NM has been a bit disappointing. We both really thought we would be upgrading quite a bit and finding better pieces overall. It just isn't happening and on top of it all we don't seem to getting many blues/yellows.
Monday will see us move into the 40's and possibly into ACT 3.

We took it rather easy today. I got a haircut and we just didn't push very hard in the game.
Still in ACT 2 NM both are at level 42 today. Had one super hard pack inside one of the place where you get Kulle's blood. Finally was able to down them and finish that part. We have both bloods and logged for the night to eat pizza.
We still really need gear upgrades. My Pages of Blacksmithing are down to zero and they just aren't dropping quickly enough to keep gambling for gear.
The pizza is ready so you know where I'm going.....

Seems like I'm posting these just for me.....
Started the day in ACT 2 NM at level 42 and ended the day in ACT 3 NM at level 46. Things went well until the very end. We really should have logged, but pushed to get level 46. This lead to sloppy play and the need for some repairs afterwards.
Just now finished supper and going to watch some TV.
Still needing better gear and Pages of Blacksmithing. Might change things up and hold off on crafting until Inferno.

Just a quick note today as supper is being made as I type this. Hamburgers and French Fries.
We have all but finished ACT 3 NM as we killed Azmodan and need to talk to LT. Lavail in the keep.
I'm level 49 and mom is less than one bubble from hitting 49. Hopefully we will be 51 heading into HELL.

We played a tad more and both hit level 51. Only problem was one pack of WALLER mobs in the Cathedral. We "rescued" Deckard Cain and logged off.

The day was split up with some yard work and that led to a bit of sloppy play. When we can sit and play for an extended period of time we really improve our play and team-work.
Went on the AH and spent about $20K each to upgrade. I got a 2hXbow while mom got a dagger/shield.
I've been playing around with different abilities and still don't know what type of build I want to do once I hit 60.
Both of us are level 53.
We are on part 8 of ACT 1 HELL.

Levelling blacksmithing and jewelcrafting isn't worth it imo, dfepends on what you want as a end result though

We had a short day today as we had LOTS of problems with HELL difficulty "The Butcher".
We get into trouble when I think I have to do to much and that really hurt us against the butcher today. I also learned that I'm better off not giving suggestions to mom over skype while actually fighting. If I give her info before a fight or after we fail at a fight I suggest a different way of doing things that works well. However, during a fight it just makes her nervous and she plays less effective.
So after many attempts with at least 5 times him being under 25% with 3 being so low you couldn't see any health on his bar, I went completely quiet for the fight. We had him at about 30% when mom needed a rez and I was dead as she killed him. Afterwards I asked her if she notice I hadn't said anything and she really hadn't noticed, but commented that she gets really nervous if I'm talking a lot during a fight.
So we moved on into ACT 2 HELL. After a tiny bit of fighting there we both realized we were pretty well exhausted mentally from having to bang into the butcher so many times. However, we were really close to leveling to 54 and we did get there.
Finished the day at level 54 in ACT 2 HELL. We will definitely be grinding hell at 60 before we even move into INFERNO.

We did make about a level and a half and are in Part 7. So we have to finish 7/8/9/10 to move into ACT 3 HELL.

I want to say it was Thistledown. My father who has passed really loved AC. He could spend all day killing tuskers or olthoi in a dungeon. Good times for sure.

We are at Belial. Had trouble getting past phase 2. Last attempt we got to phase 3 and had him at 50% when we wiped. Then it was supper time and also mom watches The Bachelorette.
Good news is we both hit level 57 and only need 3 more levels to start getting Neph Valor buff. I've started going for more of a glass cannon while she's gone more tanky. As long as I have room to scoot and shoot and she can keep close and tank, we do fairly well. She's also getting much better at spotting acid/fire on the ground and moving out. Arcane is still a tad of a problem, but that is improving too.
Have FINALLY put blacksmith on hold until patch 1.0.3 and will only combine/remove gems when we absolutely have to.
Trying to keep the AH full with 10 items each and have picked up some cheaper items when possible. Combining the AH with the new strat with the artisans(I'm stubborn and should have stopped a few days ago) and we should see more money piling up and being able to shop for more expensive items.

Played late because we couldn't play early......
Had some trouble getting by Belial, but the coolest thing happened. As we both died, so did Belial. Wish I had a computer that could stream as that would have made for a nice video.
We both made level 58 today and obviously moved into ACT 3 HELL. Hopefully we can make a level a day and start getting Neph Valor buffs Friday while still in HELL.

Super good news today. We made it into ACT 4 HELL and we both hit level 60!!!!!!!
We are on part 2 of ACT 4 HELL. Had a bit of trouble with Iskatu and Rakanoth, but finally got by them.
Iskatu I had to kite all day with Caltrops and Mutlishot. Rakanoth was all about not getting too far away from him. Once we did those, it was ezpz.
Pizza is ready!!!!!!

Late posting this.....
We have moved into INFERNO!!!! Took down Diablo on 1st attempt too. I died twice during the fight. First time in shadow phase just before the last spawn of the adds. She was able to take down her barb counterpart and get me rez'd. Then I went down late in 3rd phase and she was able to fight him close to my corpse and he teleported away and she rez'd me. Then she fell with him around 10% and somehow I got her rez'd with him super close to death and then we finished him off.
So far in INFERNO we just made it into the Cathedral and were fine if I did all the fighting. However, we are insta-death to any champs/rares. So we did some Old Ruins cellar runs and looked for some gear on the AH. Going to give it another go in the Cathedral 2moro when we start.

Had a fund day today but we have hit a brick wall.
My gear isn't that great and moms is even worse. We did finally make it SK but we wiped at around 50% for 3 or 4 times. So went went on the Cellar in the Old Ruins thru Adria's Hut/Mass Grave runs. While they aren't amazing runs by any stretch of the imagination, it is something we can do and do rather quickly.
We also don't have much gold and can't go fix the problem by visiting the AH. So it looks as though we will be doing these runs for awhile unless we get lucky with the RNG and land good loots we can use or sell.

Still at that big bad brick wall. We can get to the SK, but can't get him past 50%. So we went back to just Old Ruins runs.
We aren't making much gold, but we are making gold. Haven't been lucky enough to actually loot a piece that we can use. I have upgraded my Templar at least.... Though I have to dismiss him if I get a goblin. That's another thing. I have to solo goblins right now, because the 2 of us can't kill a goblin. This makes me sad.

Today was a quick day as I have plans tonight.
We ran a few games from the start up to Adria's Hut/Mass Grave. Then we ran one from the start up to SK. We just can't do SK yet so we went to AH each bought a new weapon to try out on Monday. The good news is we are starting to accumulate gold so if we don't actually loot things we can use, we will be able to go AH shopping.

We got in 2 of our ACT 1 INFERNO runs. We start at the start and finish with an SK attempt. The first one ended with us getting him to 50% or so. The 2nd attempt which we just did, we got him to 2% or less. I didn't get out of the way of a teleport with him under 5 % and mom just couldn't quite finish him.
We are going to try again tomorrow starting with part 3 so we will get to the SK quicker, but still be warmed up from playing.
We both have 1 or 2 new pieces of equipment from the AH and finally have some money starting to pile up due to the NV buff and killing stuff. I really hope we slay the SK tomorrow so we can see some new parts of INFERNO(just like hell/nm/normal).
About to have a homemade hamburger with a side of spinach/cream of mushroom soup.

Just had to post that we got SK today and are now taking a break for lunch. We had a 5 stack of NV but I didn't get anything great. Will check moms yellows after we eat.
My grandma calls EVERY day and she called in the middle of the SK fight. So mom just didn't answer. She's talking to her now. BTW, my grandma is 83 if I haven't mentioned it.
Anyways.... lunch and then onto more of INFERNO.

Today was a short day with the patch taking up most of the time we play.
We made it to Leoric's manor and logged off.
The only notable thing to happen today is I got a rather nice SET piece(Blackthorne's Breeches). It looks like I got a good roll too. So I put it on the AH in the hopes of being able to buy several upgrades for both mom and myself.

Hi there. I've been reading your blog and I gotta say I have a similar experience with Inferno. When soloing it, defeating any elite or rare mobs takes me about 15 mins of kiting with like 10 deaths. I beat the butcher with 2 other friends the other day and when I tried act 2 solo I was getting 1 to 2 shotted by the normal mobs. Definitely gonna have to be farming and saving up money for quite awhile before I can progress.

She's become a bit down on her play lately....... She also finds the fast pace of the game and intensity to be getting to her the longer we play. So we aren't playing as much or as often.
We did get to The Butcher today and the lowest we got him was 25% twice. I've been doing some grinding and have saved some money and I've picked up 2 new items for her today from the AH that we will try out 2moro or Wednesday as we have things to do 2moro.
I'm hoping we can get The Butcher the next time we do play and get into ACT 2. I've been doing SK runs solo to get money and that's working. If 1.0.3 goes in soon that would allow those SK runs or some early ACT 2 run to really help us out.

I read this, I just don't have very much to ask, you do a very good job of keeping up to date. I'm rooting for you guys, and I have done something similar with my mother on playing World Of Warcraft arenas(tons of fun) it didn't last long, but it sounds you are doing something really cool!

1. Good News. We co-op downed The Butcher today on INFERNO.
2. Bad News. Mom gets destroyed in ACT 2 and wants to quit.
3. Good News. Despite going solo for now, she will give the game another try once 1.0.3 kicks in and I get her some better gear.
So while not having as much of a blast as before......
