My Brother and I are going to fly into NYC for 3 days and 4 days up at West Point for my Best Friend's Graduation. We are going to do some Touristy things though I wanted to know from some people who live/ have been there.

what are some of the good places to visit, favorite place to eat, cool stuff to do pretty much. We have a pretty decent budget for the 3 days that we are in the city but nothing outrageous money wise. Also if any TLers want to meet up for one of the nights would be pretty cool I love fellow starcraft fans.

Edit: wanted to add that I am not well traveled at all this will be my first Plane Trip as well as first time leaving the State (California)

http://gonyc.about.com/od/restaurants/tp/best_breakfast.htm

These are some places that are "best" but even if they aren't they are pretty decent.

To be honest besides walking around NYC to me isn't all that interesting i would look up and see if there are any events going on (There almost always are)

If you like science stuff the Musuem Of Naturl History is a pretty cool place and if you know how Neil Degrasse Tyson is he is the director of the Hayden planetary (part of the Musuem of Naturak history) cool story me and my friend actually saw him drive into the garage at the planetary but i didn't know his name at the time so i didn't ask for an autograph.

My suggestion would be to choose your restaurants carefully places can be expensive as HELL if your not careful.

Grand central park is pretty cool becaues it pretty friggin huge and its right in the city which gives it an interesting perspective.

I would ask what are your interests? Theres almost always some street that has like a specialty.
Plays against every MU with nexus first.

Try to avoid buying food in touristy areas. Some fast food places in/around Times Square cost 75% more than their equivalent down on 23rd street.

If you're interested in art galleries, there are still some in Soho but the majority have moved to Chelsea (14th-30th west side)

Also, spend some time in Central Park. Even if you aren't overly fond of nature (like myself) you'll find that it can still captivate you for hours.

The Staten Island ferry is always a good bet. It is free and runs every 15 mins or so, has a nice view and you can buy beer on the boat. I'e lived in NYC for six years now and my favorite sight-seeing is still just people-watching. Central park and Washington Square park are great places for that, and Central park in particular is interesting in itself anyway.

You will get much better recommendations if you can tell us a little bit about your interests.

Places for food, been in Manhattan for 6-years and these are some of my favorites:

Fairly Cheap Places (Under $20 for meal usually unless you are a fatass):
Chicken and Rice Cart on 53rd and 6th ave. Open's after 8pm to ~4am. Probably one of the most beloved food carts in NYC and best late night drunk food. $6 a giant ass bowl of chicken, lamb, and rice. Put a shit ton of white sauce on it but fucking watch that hot sauce...you will regret it the next morning if you over do it -__-.

Crif Dogs on St Marks Place (8th st) between 1st ave and Ave A. Deep fried hotdogs...fucking delicious....with weird combinations like wrapped in bacon with sour cream and guac...drool

Go-Go Curry 38th and 7th ave. Best Japanese curry place I've found so far. Right near Penn Station. I am a fan of the home run curry.

Klong St. Marks Place between 3rd ave and 2nd ave. My favorite thai place in the city, not expensive, good decor, really good food. Yelp likes it =p

Ramen places: 2 famous ones Ippudo 4th Avenue and 10th St and Totto on 52nd and 9th ave. The problem with these 2 places is they are PACKED...like FUCKING PACKED 1 hour wait minimum. So try and go on a weekday at like 3pm. A place i like is Kambi on 1st Ave and 14th st, not super full like the other 2, but still pretty good.

Pricier ($20 - $40 Depending on drinks and appetizers)
Mesa Grill on 15th st and 5th ave. Bobby Flay's restaurant. Great for brunch and not too pricey. Dinner will probably run you over $50 though for appetizier + entree, but lunch and brunch are much more managable.

Mad for Chicken 32nd St and 5th ave, upstairs by the shitty pizza place on the south-west corner. A bit hidden. My favorite bar to just chill at. Bartenders make really good drinks, and the fried chicken is fucking amazing. Good looking waitresses and bartenders if you into azns =p.

Joe's Shanghai Pell between Mott and Bowery (in Chinatown), also another location in flushing and midtown that i have not been to, heard good things about the flushing one from flushing elitists though. Amazing soup dumplings, so good. Can be under $20 if you don't order too much food, but I'm a fat ass here.

Expensive Places ($40+)
Strip House on 13th st between 5th and University Pl: Good Steak house with bacon strips that are also really good. If you want a good steak, this is the place to go without making advanced reservations at some of the more snooty places. Pricey though...at least $80+

STK on little W 12th st. Another steak house, but the steaks are acctually meh. Everything else though is great. The kobe beef sliders are pretty amazing as an appetizier, and I am a fan of the short ribs. Sides are also quite good. ~$60.

Ninja NYC Hudson and Reade Street. I believe this place requires advanced reservations. You get severed a multi course meal by ninjas. Fucking expensive though, $80+ but the atmosphere is really good, and the service is awesome. Good date place, but also a good experience because it is a dinner and a show.

There's a sushi resturant. Jewel Backo (spelling?) and it has pretty good high end sushi!
