I suppose one thing that is a mystery that was introduced to me by the Internet is lucid dreaming. I've always viewed dreaming as you taking a back seat in your mind for once and just watch it work. Then, I learned about lucid dreaming and I was in awe at the the potential of it and just the phenomena that you can explore the unknowns, and do the impossible.

I however, have not tried to lucid dream out of fear of sleep paralysis and the effects that it may bring about because I'm pretty scared of the supernatural, or rather, what my mind thinks of the supernatural. I imagine some pretty scary insane shit that will be at my bedside.

Last night, I think I had my first lucid dream. Maybe not a complete one, as even though I could control what I wanted to happen slightly, things were still happening without my will. If I were to estimate the length of the dream, I would say that it would be around 4 to 5 hours.

In this dream, I was in a world of massive skyscrapers and the sky was of a magnificent amber hue, but the Sun was missing, and so were the clouds. It's something like the place in the move Inception where Molly was trapped. In the beginning, I was a mere observer, but slowly I began to take control of the dream. Buildings were collapsing and wreaking havoc amongst the pedestrians, there however, was no blood. Only people trapped under rubble, desperately screaming for help. I'm afraid of myself now that I realise how morbid my thoughts are. So much screaming and pain. I can still hear the screaming right now, and it's amazing. It's amazing how I can keep a memory like this.

The next and final world I dreamed of was the most fascinating. It's probably fuelled by my amazement of outer space. I could breathe and had perfect control over my faculties. I was on holding on to a cerulean balloon, orbiting Earth. The Moon was behind me, the Sun not to far away. Holy hell it's just amazing. It made myself descend towards Earth while still holding on to the balloon, passing through the atmosphere was like a little roller-coaster ride, blurry. Past the atmosphere, I just slowly landed on a massive grass field, Mary Poppins style, except I was still holding on to the balloon.

Man, if lucid dreams were always like this I would definitely learn to lucid dream seriously. I've heard of people being able to dream entire lives (80~90 years) in just a normal night's of sleep. Thinking about all the things I can do, + Show Spoiler +
teenager's libido :D
it's just amazing! I just wonder if everything you dream of must be based on what you know. It must be, right? I think it's impossible to read a book you have not read in a dream, or watch a movie you have not watched.

Yeah! Which brings me to the points I've raised in the last paragraph. Can we study subjects and learn new things while lucid dreaming? If we could it would be pretty awesome if you could read like 10 books in your lucid dream or study the entire syllabus for the year.

Yeah I guess lucid dreaming is a pretty awesome and fun experience if it's done correctly. I can just imagine living in Hoenn and just going about on the Pokemon adventure with your gf/wife/crush/w.e/ and then, riding on Lugia.

I have had a few lucid dreams since I quit smoking weed (22-23 days now). I actually need to go to sleep right now, but I will try and remember to edit this post and put everything that I remember from them. I find it pretty hard to actually control the dreams for very long before waking up. I guess it feels like I control them for about 10-15 minutes (yay dream time). Its pretty hard to put a number on that though since its hard to remember every little detail of the dreams, even if they are very vivid.

Lucid dreaming can be ridiculously fun, but don't think it's easy to control, and you will always dictate what happens
Don't think about turtles
you just thought about turtles, didn't you?
that's what it's like to lucid dream, your mind goes off on it's own, and isn't always thinking about what you want it to.
if you have a particularly strong bad memory, in a lucid dream, you can expect to relive different versions of it. so be careful.

sleep paralysis is also super shitty, imagine hallucinating something which you're ridiculously scared of, knowing you're awake when you see it, and being unable to move

p.s. Don't look in a mirror, in your dream, you won't like what you see

p.s.s. if anyone wants to know anything at all about lucid dreaming feel free to PM me, I have quite a bit of experience with it.
Just break the rules, and you see the truth.

Ah, I am always jealous of people who can dream. I have never woken up remembering a dream, even a second of it. I also know from other people that I don't move much while in sleep or make any noises.

Maybe when I get my first dream it will be that much more awesome because I will experience it for the first time.

edit: second thought made no sense at all.

edit 2: i didn't think about a turtle.

How could you not think about a turtle when you read turtle? Otherwise you didn't actually read what he said

So can people actually prove there's such thing as lucid dreaming or is that another faux blind belief.
I always find it amusing when people go all logic warring against religion but when it comes to stuff like that, ey lets be gullible and willing now!

I hate dreams , i wish i had no dreams. Seriously , i god damn hate them. Every night when i go to bed and sleep i dream about the most horrific things. My friends turning against me , trying to put me in jain , kill me , strangers trying to burn my house down. demons trying to take me to hell , Dinosaurs eating my family , Murderers hidding in my house and the list goes on.

Another thing i hate is when i jump off a cliff , building or any high object i get that gravity pressure and i wake up all sweaty , the force is actually so strong that it have to sit up and i am like "fuck".

Are you only saying this because you haven't had any lucid dreams before? Isn't it just post hoc ergo propter hoc?

Excuse me, but what the fuck are you talking about? You have a hard time believing the people can be conscious while dreaming? Is that some hokus-pokus magic to you? If you wanna be a smart ass, you should at least know what you are talking about. Do MRI/NMRI/CAT scans of people and compare the brain activity between people that are awake, regular sleepers and lucid dreamers - quick way to prove or disprove that.

Thats messed up, if you only have those dreams i feel bad for you. However, it is usual that people remember those high tensity dreams due to the stress that induces. You can have the time of your life, but you dont end up remembering any of it when you wake up. The brain can be a bastard sometimes

Back to lucid dreams. I used do that a lot when i was 15-18 (hard time getting "high" by other means). I had a great time. I peaked with being God (or at least omnipotent) and built a world in similar to minecraft) in the sky and added what ever i felt like. I could 3d rotation of the whole thing and the spires and tall ancient/magical looking buildings was beatiful. Amazing experience. But i quit because i slept only 5-6 hours a day (school/friends/gaming) and you really need some time off. After you do it for an extended period of time you (or at least I) felt like i never got a break or pause from my own consciousness and there seemed to be no clear division between the days. I still retain some of the skill (7-9) years later, because i can (sometimes) rewind my dreams (like a VHS tape) and go down a different path if i dont like how the dream turns out.

Aphasie,

Would you mind explaining a bit about how you learnt to lucid dream, and your experiences while in the process of learning? Were there any scary stuff, sleep paralysis and whatnot?

Penis. You mean the penis right?
Also, that would make it seem like our dreams are governed by a universal law of dreams.
