I have to agree with the decision to ban Destiny's stream for 30 days (that's what happened right?), but I'm not feelin' it. Destiny being Destiny, he's always been like this and because some random bloke who all-inned him and screencapped his BM (chances for him actually being offended by it is very slim) and posted it here. To me it just looks like he just wanted to screw Destiny over, and I think he's a fucking idiot for doing that. I respect TLs decision and will not question it, but I don't like it. (Not that I would have made a difference anyway lol)
Fuck you, whatever your name was, I can't believe you actually got things the way you wanted. You remind me of a spoiled brat; allin, win, recieve BM(which is something you should just laugh about), make a thread, get Destiny banned. You just got everything you wanted, hope you're happy.
In recent news, I had a english test today, we were supposed to write an article about "younger people" and safety on the internet. (Not that they told us what they meant about that) If you want to read it and maybe even discuss it feel free, and NO this is not homework I'm asking for help about, this is asking for feedback on the article I wrote. Test was delivered 3 hours ago so no way for me to change it now.
The Internet and You In this article I will be telling you about how the internet can be both a good and a bad thing. I will be referencing some websites and telling you more about them. I will also discuss how to not get scammed or fooled on the internet. The internet is a great place, but as almost all other things it has a “dark side”, one of the many dangers online is to have someone trying to steal your identity. This is a really easy thing to fall for and is not really that hard to pull off. They start by sending you an e-mail, and tell you that “You have to update your profile information” or something like that. Then they link you to a fake site they created for this purpose, which will look exactly the same as the regular site, except that when you log in you have just given them you login information. They can then use it to access your account on the real site, change your password and do whatever they want. This probably isn’t that big a deal if it’s just some online game (although it can be incredibly frustrating), but imagine if they did that to, say, your bank account? They could do enormous amounts of damage. The best way to protect yourself from this is to simply look at the address bar on top of your web-browser and see if it’s the correct site. Check for small differences like: www.facebook.no and www.facesbook.no, it’s really easy to see if it’s a fake site if you know what to look for. Another thing you could do is check where the e-mail came from, if it came from thansen@faceook.com or pingpuffyhouse@1337.com. In this example it’s completely obvious which one is a legit Facebook employee, but scammers are human too, most of them are not that stupid, and they will try their hardest to fool you.
Another thing (this one is mostly for younger persons) is that there’s a lot of grotesque images and videos. They aren’t very hard to find, some parts of the website www.reddit.com which is for the most part a friendly and nice website, but it has the idea of free speech, so that users can create their own “reddits” (which would be linked as www.reddit.com/r/[name of reddit]. Reddit has been critized a lot for having pictures/videos of minors performing sexual acts, especially on the www.reddit.com/r/jailbait reddit, this reddit were closed recently because of protest from the rest of the reddit community(and problems with the US Government), but there are still some left (which I will refrain from linking to). Reddit is a nice website and it has a lot of information and a really nice community, this was just for the purpose of illustrating how a nice site can have bad sides to it.
A site that should be blocked to anyone under the age of 16 however is www.4chan.org. It started out as an “imageboard” (a forum where you share images along with text) for anime. But today it basically is the most obscene/grotesque legal website on the internet, it is allegedly also the place where “Anonymous” arranges its operations. On this site, everyone is known as an “Anon” or “Anonymous” (“Femanon” if it’s a girl), this is simply to allow everyone to speak their mind without having to worry about being tracked down to a username. But this also brings out the more extreme opinions, for example www.4chan.org/b/ has absolutely no rules other than the general rule of “NO UNDERAGE SEX”, but most people ignore this and post it anyway. 4chan can be funny, but be cautious on this site, some of these guys really know how to hack you and get your personal information. Another danger for young people are the “shock sites”, these are sites that post extremely graphic content with the purpose of shocking the viewers. These sites are often titled as www.2girls1cup.com (I implore you to not go to that page, it is just an example on how these pages stylize their names). If you see anything similar to the previous link don’t go there unless you really want to see something disgusting.
If you’re a young person and want to use the internet responsibly you should preferably ask an older brother/sister about the new website you’re going to. Since that most likely won’t happen, you have the general rules for internet safety: 1. Don’t tell anyone you don’t know what your name is. 2. Don’t tell anyone you don’t know where you live. 3. Don’t tell anyone you don’t know where your school is. 4. Don’t send pictures of yourself to people you don’t know. 5. Don’t send pictures of your friends to people you don’t know. 6. Don’t agree with meeting up with someone you don’t know (from the internet). And if you do 7. Bring an adult. Basically don’t give out you own or your friends’ personal information to people on the internet. If you’re registering for a website login and you’re uncertain whether or not to give them you address ask your parents (or older brother/sister). There really isn’t any way to be 100% secure against all the nasty websites on the internet unless you have a ridiculous internet filter, which takes away the fun in using the internet anyway. The best way is to simply use common sense, if a page is called something like www.rotten.com (don’t press that link) do you really think it’s a site where you have friendly conversations and get good friends? No. The list above is more for kids (0-12) on how to behave on the internet, it is very possible to get online friends that really just want to be friends, and after you get some browsing experience you will learn where to hang out and where not to. No matter what interests you it’s on the internet, which is both good and bad for obvious reasons. Find your favorite site to hang out on, get some friends and have fun.
To conclude I would say that kids (0-12) should have some kind of supervision while browsing; if they are older than that they should use common sense. I for one see girls (and boys) post pictures of themselves half-naked on Facebook and other social networking sites and not pay attention to who they share it with. This is obviously very bad, because then everyone that visits their profile can see the picture and download it, and upload it to another site. If that happens, the picture is never (I mean it, NEVER) coming off the internet. The picture can also be manipulated and used in internet “memes”, or other things. This recently happened to a girl with downs syndrome, where a random man found a picture of her when she was a baby, and made it into a meme. That girl is never going to get all the pictures off the internet because they actually got very popular. A girl on 4chan (this is to elaborate on why you should be careful on this site!) posted pictures of herself to get compliments, she then made a few of them herself, and someone called her out for this. To make a long story short, hackers found her credit card number, her social security number, her address, and the equivalent information for her parents and cousins. They also sent messages to her school principal linking him to the photos and they also sent this information to her parents. So in short, think before you post!
I like the idea of your teacher typing those URLs into their browser at work to find out what they are. Assuming you are still in school maybe you will be called into the principle's office tomorrow...
The email thing - it's very easy to put a fake email address in the header. If you have doubts about the authenticity of the sender, view the original email as a text-only file. Gmail has this option. Here's an example (my email address omitted, important parts in bold).

I thought about it, the only really bad one is rotten, is 2girls1cup even the correct address? Why should I be called to the principals office for knowing about those sites? I mean who doesn't?
EDIT I even wrote a warning about it, if they have any brains at all thy would research it a little before going there.
Assuming you are in school and therefore a minor, open and frank knowledge of a site that you suggest has a “NO UNDERAGE SEX” policy but in which 'most people ignore this and post it anyway' would warrant at least a conversation, if just out of concern for your safety.

I was only really joking in my first post.
Conversation for my safety because I've heard about 4chan and /b/? It's common knowlegde on the internet that 4chan is a breeding ground for under-age pornography and paedophiles. I can have a conversation with a counsellor or whatever no problem, I very rarely browse 4chan, and I never browse /b/. And no, I don't watch children having sex either.

I mean....people have their opinions. Destiny just needs to be careful with getting away with it next time.

Why do you have a username after a worthless postmodern philosopher
Destiny did step over a line and banning him for 30 days was the right thing to do.
On the other hand now, TL need to step up their game and make sure no one says anything that can be taken in offence and they need to watch what they say as well
last night after a rant I had a TL mod pm'd me this http://i.imgur.com/xmA16.jpg TL is respectable and should watch out for hypocrisy.
He did bring in like 1-4k viewers every stream session, surely TL gets something for having him as a featured streamer, but what can you do? He did say a bad word...

If you call someone a retard you get banned, saying you'll get banned if you act like a retard won't get you banned
I think the issue isn't the fact that he was doing it on his stream, but he brought it over to Team Liquid which has a different set of values than where he is in charge of the broadcast. It's like saying anyone can be a dick to their close friends in their space, but you can't go to the middle of town and start screaming obscenities at someone you don't agree with.

"unless you're a retard"- i can find offense in if I had a family member who had a mental handicap. "unless you'e a <insert derogatory word>"- TL need to watch what they say......

I'm offended by the fact you said family since I don't have a family... -_- you can get offended by anything, don't turn this into a political correctness issue, it isn't. This has nothing to do with mentally handicapped, and the word doesn't even have any connotation with mentally handicapped any more (challenged is the new word fyi).

But that was his decision. Destiny came into the thread and started breaking TL rules left and right. That's why he was banned. It's true that the other guy called him out for his racism, but Destiny could have simply said, "It's my stream and I do what I want with it." He didn't do that though which is the problem.

The the mod used "retard" in a context that is derogatory in nature. Just like other words or phrases, "retard" can be used in a hurtful or deeming way or in an aggressive way to get a response. family is not used the same manner. "unless you'e a <insert derogatory word>" insert family into that and see how it works out.
This thread has clearly turned into a Destiny thread instead of an essay thread, so I'll just put my 2-cents in:
It was completely Destiny's fault that he got banned. If he was mature enough to just ignore the thread and the petty insults that were slung at him, then he wouldn't have been banned. Hell, if he was mature enough to leave the game without calling him a gook (like calling a black person the n-word), he wouldn't have been banned.
Destiny clearly wasn't at full fault and arguably not even at half-fault. Intrigue as a mod showed a disgusting lack of professionalism and the OP really needed to learn how to get a thicker skin. However, if Destiny hadn't acted like a 13 year old, became butt-hurt and attacked everyone, he wouldn't have suffered any consequences. In a sense, Destiny should've developed a thicker skin as well.
The things Destiny says and the way he reacted to the situation clearly shows that he has a lot of growing up to do despite what he thinks, and he paid for his immaturity in this situation. He deserves every repercussion that he suffered from the ban. I honestly don't see this as an issue of political correctness and more as an issue of maturity. He wasn't banned because he said a bad word, he was banned because he was immature about it. In this case, talk about PCness really isn't as relevant as it was in the orb scandal.
Is it fair? No. I think Intrigue should be de-modded or disciplined in some way, but sometimes life isn't fair.

I can agree with this, I haven't read the Intrigue/Destiny coflict but the rest seems accurate. About the de-modding of Intrigue, it won't happen, life isn't fair and TL is even less fair ^^ (That was a joke based on the TL Commandents)

Intrigue is a long time well respected member. He's done so much for the community that a destiny ban is probably laught about in the mod circle.
Newcomers (maybe you are not, i'm generalizing) often make this mistake to tell how other users/mods should behave and what should or shouldn't be done. Prime example is post like "this post should be worth a ban", mods hate that.
TL forum are generally more "elitist" and narrow-minded (not in a bad way) when it comes to theses kind of things. It always been like that and I hope it stays. Mods opinion should be respected. They always been open to criticism but there is a line not to cross. Like the #1 commandment says : "This is our house"

Well, no surprise that you're a supporter of Destiny. You share the same disregard for TL rules as him, which is what got him banned by the way. WardenSC's thread didn't get Destiny banned. Destiny got himself banned.

How did I disregard the TL rules? I had a good reason to leave a message, he is the (indirect) reason for Destiny being banned, if he hadn't posted the thread none of this would have happened. And as you pointed out, I am a supporter of Destiny, he is the person that kept me playing sc2 with all of his wacky stuff, he (and Day9 ofc) is the reason I kept playing until I placed Diamond.
Do people actually read what I post? That's actually kind of cool, but yes I know that Destiny did this to himself and I'm really, really sad about it, can't say it was unexpected though.
Kinda agree with the whole OP being butthurt thing, i dont watch Destiny except for a few videos on youtube that were pretty funny. However that OP that eventually got him banned(kicked out of his team rather, edit) was kinda "weeeh someone was mean to me over the internet" that now just happened to be Destiny. People BM all the time in different forms, progamer or not it was still only a ladder game. Like many have said had it been Idra nothing would've happened, had it been a semi pro nothing would've happened.
I agree progamers should be proffessional when representing their team, but as it stands i wouldn't consider ladder to be such a place, LAN's yes. Frankly i think that people who went out of their way to destroy things for Orb and Destiny are just full of themselves. Political correctness is a farse and in the end it wasn't about the fact that they had done something wrong, it was about getting them punished. Starting a thread on TL condemming their behavior, fine. E-mailing their teams and sponsors demanding they be punished is just ridicilous.
You're like the old people that always ring in to TV shows proclaiming how offended they are over something, nobody takes them seriously. This is pretty appropriate:
From what I gathered, this is an accurate representation of what happened metaphorically:
Destiny was chilling in his house. Some other guys walked in. Destiny said some mean words to his computer. Other guys found it offensive so they left and told the cops.
This is quite literally a case of: If it offends you, then don't watch it. I sure as hell don't listen to Justin Beiber on the radio if I can help it, so why don't you navigate your mouse away from the stream?
Destiny's stream is personal and the only thing he represents is himself. The only people that can take that away from him are Own3d and quite frankly they don't give a shit.
Ban his stream on TL because it doesn't fit with you personal preferences. I work in retail and oddly enough this whole thing reminds me of a bigot customer I had once. He said that we shouldn't sell Pan's Labyrinth because it was in Spanish. Now if you ask me TL is playing the part of the bigot in this example.
The point is words are always going to offend. "Actions speak louder than words", as they say and I don't see news reports of Destiny going out and murdering people. Saying that something offends you is like saying that you have uncontrollable emotions and you need someone else to regulate them for you. Grow up.
How about emailing teamliquid and own3d.tv asking why they support hate speech?
Destiny CONTINUES to use "gook, nigger, faggot" as of TODAY 5.9.2012 .. why are you giving him a platform to spew his hatred?
Does Own3d.tv and Teamliquid stand behind this kind of hate speech? Is this appropriate for a featured streamer on Own3d.tv and Teamliquid? Please advise. Most people realize words are not always going to offend. Those people know which words are going to offend and which ones are cool. Those are the people who coincidentally don't get banned.
Other people with little to zero empathy and social skills don't even understand whats offensive what's not. Or know whats offensive whats not and choose to be offensive on purpose. Those usually get banned. All fair.
